Department Overview

Welcome to the Department of Forest Operations, Management and Techniques.

This is one of the seven Departments in the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism of the Sokoine University of Agriculture established in 1984. Currently, there are eight academic members of staff and nine non-academic members of staff.

The Department has long experience in offering forest operations courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the country and in the East, Central and Southern Africa. The Department is currently pursuing a wide range of basic and applied research projects on areas that include: timber harvesting, transportation system design, ergonomics and application of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing in forest operations and management.

The Department has also a longstanding collaboration with Tanzania Forest Agency, other government organizations and neighboring countries in promoting high quality forest management in Tanzania. Our commitment has been and will continue to provide services aimed at supporting implementing forestry policy and regulations through conveying information to practitioners, the public, and policy makers in the field of Forest Operations Management and Techniques.
