{"id":101,"date":"2018-09-17T22:52:57","date_gmt":"2018-09-17T22:52:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/ecosystems\/welcome-note\/"},"modified":"2026-02-11T01:16:28","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T22:16:28","slug":"welcome-note","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/welcome-note","title":{"rendered":"Welcome Note"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/forestrybiology\/\">Department of Ecosystems and Conservation<\/a> is\u00a0one of the six departments in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/localhost\/\">College of Forestry, Wildlife and Touris<\/a>m,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sua.ac.tz\/\">Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA)<\/a>\u00a0located in Morogoro Region, Tanzania.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Department was formed in July 1984 as a Department of Forestry Biology following the establishment of SUA by elevating the former Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Medicine of the University of Dar es Salaam to a fully-fledged University of Agriculture. The name changed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/forestrybiology\/\">Department of Ecosystems and Conservation<\/a> to accommodate emerging issues and growing expertise in July 2017.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We offer teaching, research, consultancy and outreach services in the area of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Botany\">Botany<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ethnomycology\">Ethnomycology<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beekeeping\">Beekeeping<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beekeeping\">Bee resources<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Silviculture\">Natural and plantation forest silviculture<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tree_breeding\">Tree improvement<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Agroforestry\">Agroforestry<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Entomology\">Forest protection<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Soil\">Forest soils<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Climate_change\">Climate change<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Biodiversity\">Biodiversity<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ecosystem-based_management\">Integrated ecosystem assessment<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Environmental_impact_assessment\">Ecological impact assessment and planning<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Environmental_flow\">Environmental flows assessments<\/a>, Integrated Watersheds Management, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Invasive_species\">Invasive species biology<\/a>, Detection and control,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ecology\">Ecology<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Restoration\">Restoration<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plant_physiology\">Eco &#8211; physiology<\/a>. <a href=\"index.php\/charles-j-kilawe\"><strong>Prof. Charles J.
