LEARNING OUTCOME
\n<\/strong>The graduate can design, implement and control forest operations in natural and plantation forests; identify tree species, their habitats, uses, and economic values; manage forest pests and diseases in the tropics; identity, formulate and solve forest engineering problems; select appropriate harvesting methods and systems for forests; be entrepreneurs in forestry and forestry products to add value to meet market demands. The graduates are excellent planners and managers of forestry industries<\/p>\n

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong>
\nTwo principal passes (4 points) in Biology and one of the following subjects: Chemistry, Physics, Geography or Agriculture. OR Diploma in Forestry\/Bee-Keeping, Wildlife Management or Agriculture with an average of \u201cB\u201d or a minimum GPA of 3.0. In addition, an applicant must have a minimum of \u201cD\u201d grade in Biology and two science subjects at O-Level.<\/p>\n

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE
\n<\/strong>To be admitted to the BSc Forestry Degree Programme at Sokoine University of Agriculture, a candidate needs to meet the minimum entry requirements stipulated in section 10. It is assumed that any candidate who has met the entry requirements (stipulated in section 10) will have acquired competencies and knowledge in science subjects and allied<\/a> fields to undertake the BSc Forestry training. Where there is a deficiency, SUA regulations will apply and a candidate may be required to undertake remedial courses before being allowed to register for the programme.<\/p>\n

\u00a0EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES AND ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
\n<\/strong>Regulations related to the course and special project evaluation shall be as per General University Examination Regulations and Guidelines for Undergraduate and Non-Degree Programmes of the Sokoine University of Agriculture where the candidate is expected to pass all courses and have a minimum of 60 credits (600 \u2018NOTIONAL\u2019 OR \u2018AVERAGE LEARNING\u2019 hours) per semester. To graduate with a degree of BSc. Forestry a student must have a minimum of 360 credits (3600 \u2018NOTIONAL\u2019 OR \u2018AVERAGE LEARNING\u2019 hours). The minimum time for full time students to complete their degree programme shall be six semesters while part-time students will be allowed to spend up to but not more than 12 semesters. Assessment criteria for various components of examinations shall be as per SUA general regulations and guidelines. Candidates who have completed year 2 or 3 but could not meet the requirement for a degree due to various reasons shall be given HIGHER DIPLOMA as an exit award.<\/p>\n

\u00a0INTEGRATED ASSESSMENT
\n<\/strong>Formative, summative and integrated learning assessments will be used to evaluate the knowledge and understanding of students in the BSc Forestry programme. Formative assessments shall include assignments, quizzes, presentations, practicals, training and Research. The summative evaluation shall include tests and final examinations. Written class examinations (class tests and end-of-semester examinations) are the principal method of assessment for knowledge and understanding in most courses in all years. Timed essays, laboratory and field practical<\/a> reports and other coursework assignments delivered verbally, written or both, comprise 40% of the final course mark. The end-of-semester examinations carry 60%. At the end of the semester for each course, an examination of 3 hours shall be given to students. Field practical training shall be an essential requirement of the BSc Forestry<\/a> programme and shall be conducted during the 2, 4 and 6th semesters. Assessment of field practicals<\/a> shall be done on a pass or fail bases. A pass in field practical<\/a> shall be required before a candidate is allowed to proceed to the next semester or to the graduate case of a final year student.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
