Patagonia supports innovative work that addresses the root causes of the environmental crisis and seeks to protect both the environment and affected communities. Patagonia funds action-oriented environmental projects that focus on root causes of the problem. The funding range is typically between US$5 to $15 thousand. At this time, support for the developing world<\/a> is only available in Chile and Argentina. Applications have to be submitted by an environmental organization. Patagonia offers two annual deadlines: 31 May and 30 September.\u00a0Patagonia Environmental Grants<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

We support innovative<\/a> work that addresses the root causes of the environmental crisis and seeks to protect both the environment and affected communities. We focus on places where we\u2019ve built connections through outdoor recreation and through our network of retail stores, nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n

We believe local battles to protect<\/a> a specific stand of forest, a stretch of river, an indigenous wild species or a community from a polluting refinery build public support and confront larger, more complex issues like climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental justice.<\/p>\n

We encourage work that brings underrepresented communities<\/a> to the forefront of the environmental movement and defend communities whose health and livelihoods are threatened by environmental exploitation.<\/p>\n

We support multipronged campaigns that push for greater environmental protections and force the government<\/a> to abide by its own laws.<\/p>\n

We fund<\/a> work that<\/strong><\/p>\n

builds an equitable, inclusive and diverse environmental movement<\/p>\n

confronts systemic bias, discrimination and injustice in environmental policy or outdoor spaces<\/p>\n

is action-oriented<\/p>\n

focuses on root causes<\/p>\n

has a clear strategy<\/p>\n

identifies specific goals and objectives that can be effectively measured to evaluate success<\/p>\n

builds public<\/a> involvement and civic engagement<\/p>\n

works to build an inclusive and diverse environmental movement<\/p>\n

takes place within the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Czechia, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We do not fund<\/strong><\/p>\n

organizations that perpetuate systemic biases and discrimination based on ethnicity, race, religion, color, sexual orientation<\/a>, gender, gender identity, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, veteran, or disability status<\/p>\n

organizations without a non-profit status or a comparable fiscal sponsor<\/p>\n

trail creation, maintenance or restoration<\/a><\/p>\n

any dam renovations, human-assisted fish passage infrastructure or hatchery programs<\/p>\n

conservation easements or land<\/a> acquisition<\/p>\n

research, unless it is in direct support of a developed plan for specific action<\/a> to alleviate an environmental problem<\/p>\n

projects that are solely focused<\/a> on environmental education<\/p>\n

environmental conferences, event sponsorships or film festivals<\/p>\n

endowment funds<\/a><\/p>\n

political campaigns<\/p>\n

green building projects<\/a><\/p>\n

bike advocacy, unless the project is in direct support of a climate change<\/a> solution<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Patagonia believes that the most direct path to real change is through building grassroots momentum.<\/h5>\n

Our funding focuses on organizations that have or can create a strong base of support. Because we’re a privately held company, we have the freedom to fund risk-taking, off-the-beaten-track groups, and that’s where we believe our small grants<\/a> are most effective.<\/p>\n

We accept one proposal<\/a> per group in a given fiscal year (May 1\u2013April 30<\/strong>). Our typical grant<\/a> size ranges between $5,000 and $15,000 Proposals are reviewed and grants decisions are made by an employee grants council in Europe.<\/p>\n

There are two annual deadlines for this process:<\/p>\n

May 31st<\/strong>\u00a0(all applications received in May will receive a response by the end of August)
\nSeptember 30th<\/strong>\u00a0(all applications received in September will receive a response by the end of December)<\/p>\n

Please note that our grant opportunities<\/a> are currently closed. Our next granting deadline is May 31, 2025, and we will start accepting applications again in February 2025. Please check back here for updates in January.<\/p>\n
