{"id":10873,"date":"2025-03-10T16:13:50","date_gmt":"2025-03-10T13:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/?p=10873"},"modified":"2025-03-10T16:13:50","modified_gmt":"2025-03-10T13:13:50","slug":"scaling-up-nature-based-solutions-for-climate-resilience-in-tanzania-iucn-and-norad-launch-resolve-nbs-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/scaling-up-nature-based-solutions-for-climate-resilience-in-tanzania-iucn-and-norad-launch-resolve-nbs-project","title":{"rendered":"Scaling Up Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Resilience in Tanzania: IUCN and NORAD Launch RESOLVE-NbS Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text-align-justify selectionShareable\">The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), in partnership with the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), is proud to\u00a0<strong>launch the Scaling-up Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for Climate Change Resilience in Tanzania (RESOLVE-NbS) project.<\/strong>\u00a0This initiative has a budget of NOK 60 million and will run from 2025 to 2027 and it aims to enhance climate resilience through Nature-based Solutions (NbS), with a strong focus on community-driven adaptation efforts in the Morogoro and Iringa regions benefiting over 30,000 beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify selectionShareable\">RESOLVE-NbS will support local communities in adopting and scaling up NbS to adapt and mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change on food systems and natural ecosystems. This partnership contributes to Agriculture and Climate MOUs that Norway recently signed with Tanzania. It aligns with Tanzania\u2019s local and <a title=\"International Climate Initiative Small Grants\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/international-climate-initiative-small-grants\">international climate<\/a> policies and commitments including the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100) which, respectively, targets a 30-35% reduction in emissions and the restoration of 5.2 million hectares by 2030 as well as the SDGs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify selectionShareable\">Speaking at the launch,\u00a0<strong>Mr. Charles Oluchina, IUCN Tanzania Country Director<\/strong>, highlighted the project\u2019s transformative potential:<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify selectionShareable\"><em>&#8220;Through RESOLVE-NbS, we aim to turn <a title=\"Enhancing Climate Challenge Mitigation Through Improved Monitoring in East Africa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/enhancing-climate-challenge-mitigation-through-improved-monitoring-in-east-africa\">climate challenges<\/a> into opportunities by equipping local communities in Iringa and Morogoro with knowledge, tools, and resources to implement Nature-based Solutions, transform ecosystems and agriculture towards a recovery path and resilience.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify selectionShareable\">Echoing this sentiment,\u00a0<strong>H.E. Amb. Tone Tinnes, Norwegian Ambassador to Tanzania<\/strong>, emphasized Norway\u2019s commitment to climate resilience:\u00a0<em>&#8220;Norway is committed to supporting <a title=\"Support for Climate Action\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/support-for-climate-action\">climate action<\/a> efforts working towards a low emission society. Through this partnership with IUCN, we are supporting Tanzania in strengthening its ecosystems and communities against <a title=\"Climate Change\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/climate-change\">climate change<\/a> while promoting sustainable development.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify selectionShareable\"><strong>Hon. Eng. Hamad Yusuf Masauni, Minister of State, Vice President\u2019s Office \u2013 Environment and Union affairs<\/strong>\u00a0underscored the government\u2019s <a title=\"Local Project Support\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/local-project-support\">support for the project<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify selectionShareable\"><em>&#8220;Tanzania is committed to integrating Nature-based Solutions into our <a title=\"Stanford Law School Policy Lab and Bezos Earth Fund report recommends climate-smart forestry practices\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/stanford-law-school-policy-lab-and-bezos-earth-fund-report-recommends-climate-smart-forestry-practices\">climate policies and practices<\/a>. The RESOLVE-NbS project aligns with our national priorities, offering practical <a title=\"Calls for enhanced integration of nature-based solutions for climate resilience in Africa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/calls-for-enhanced-integration-of-nature-based-solutions-for-climate-resilience-in-africa\">solutions and a contribution that will enhance resilience<\/a> and protect vital ecosystems.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify selectionShareable\">The launch event, held in Dodoma, brings together key stakeholders and partners in the sector including WWF, <a title=\"New multiple vacancies announced \u2013 Eastern Arc Mountains Conservation Endowment Fund\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/new-multiple-vacancies-announced-eastern-arc-mountains-conservation-endowment-fund\">Eastern Arc Mountains Conservation Endowment Fund<\/a> (EAMCEF), CARE Tanzania, Climate Action Network (CAN) Tanzania, National Carbon Monitoring Centre (NCMC), SAGCOT, Government Agencies, Ministries, and other Development Partners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify selectionShareable\">The RESOLVE-NbS <a title=\"Call for Concept Notes for Regional Innovation Collaboration Projects in eastern Africa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-concept-notes-for-regional-innovation-collaboration-projects-in-eastern-africa\">project will be implemented through close collaboration<\/a> with local governments, partner organisations, the private sector and its associations, and local communities.
