The Tanzania Forestry Service Agency (TFS) yesterday inaugurated the board of Misitu Company Limited (MCL) and tasked it to accomplish at least nine key priorities meant to improve economic performance in the forestry sector in Tanzania.<\/p>\n
MCL is a subsidiary company of TFS established in 2020 for the purpose of commercialization of forest sector in Tanzania.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the inception meeting of the board, TFS Advisory Board Chairman, Maj. Gen. Mbaraka Mkeremy, said the company was established as a TFS’s commercial strategy with the aim of introducing and developing commercial projects that use forest and bee resources.<\/p>\n
You must work hard while embracing the understanding that this company has been established to help increase agency revenue and expand businesses that depend on forest and bee resources,”<\/a> he said.<\/p>\n He added that the company would be responsible for developing project<\/a> proposals, addressing investment plans and reducing agency dependence on the government.<\/p>\n “So our measure will be the income level that increases in the institution from the company’s work,” he said.<\/p>\n He unveiled the priorities that the MCL board ought to accomplish as enhancing commercial performance in forests, increasing the value of forest products<\/a>, increasing revenue, and improving services and products.<\/p>\n Other priorities that the MCL board has been tasked to achieve include to\u00a0 promote innovation and use of technology in the sector,\u00a0 building partnerships with various stakeholders, regulating rules and regulations, developing skills and training for staff as well as promoting<\/a> professionalism and trust.<\/p>\n Chairman of the Board of MCL Fortunatus Mhambe thanked the instructions under TFS advisory board and promised to fulfill its duties with patriotism and diligence to achieve the set goals.<\/p>\n Other members of the MCL board<\/a> are Grace Mbise, Peter Mwakosya, Prof. Yonika Nganga and Chelestino Balama. \nThe Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS), established on July 30, 2010, is a semi-autonomous government executive agency under the Ministry of Natural Resources<\/a> and Tourism. Mandated by the Executive Agency Act (Cap. 245, Revised Edition 2009), the Forest Act (No. 14 of 2002), and the Beekeeping Act (No. 15 of 2002), TFS manages national forest and bee resources<\/a> to ensure sustainable supply of quality products and services. Covering 48 million hectares (55% of Tanzania\u2019s mainland), TFS oversees 506 forest reserves<\/a>, including woodlands, mangroves, and plantations, and promotes beekeeping with a potential for 138,000 tonnes of honey annually.
