GEF Small Grants Programme<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Small Grants Programme of the Global Environment Facility (GEF\/SGP) is a development programme, which is implemented through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Globally, the GEF\/SGP was established in 1992 at the Earth Summit to compliment larger GEF projects by providing a window for direct participation of local, community-based organizations for projects that benefits the global environment.&nbsp; The GEF\/SGP operates under the philosophy that global environmental challenges can be addressed effectively when local people and organizations are involved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In Tanzania, GEF\/SGP became operational in 1996.&nbsp; Its operations are coordinated by the Division of Environment (GEF Operational Focal Point), Vice President\u2019s Office. The Programme devotes particular attention to community-based projects, which link conservation of global environment and improvement of local livelihoods.&nbsp; In this regard, GEF\/SGP is primarily a CSO \u2013 led and focussed programme.&nbsp; Only CSOs that include, NGOs, CBOs and FBOs are eligible for technical and financial support under this programme whereby grants of up to US$ 50,000 per project are given to successful proponents. In addition, NGOs eligibility criteria includes full compliance to the NGO Act No. 24 of 2002 (as amended).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">II. Priorities for GEF 7\/OP7<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Implementation of the GEF\/SGP is now at GEF 7 and Operational Phase 7 (OP7).&nbsp; Priorities for GEF7\/OP7 focuses on the following geographical areas:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Serengeti Ecosystem<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">West Kilimanjaro \u2013 Lake Natron Ecosystem<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Jozani Ecosystem in Zanzibar<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Projects from elsewhere in Tanzania will be considered if they are proposed from other ecosystems of environmental significance<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Projects from other ecosystems, which will complement to the Government or GEF Strategic initiatives will also be considered.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">III.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Focal Areas for GEF7\/OP7<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Conservation of threatened ecosystem and species<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Sustainable agriculture, fisheries and food security<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Low carbon energy access co-benefits<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Chemicals and waste management<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Catalyzing urban solutions<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">CSO-Government \u2013 Private Sector Dialogue<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Enhancing social inclusion (Support to youths, women, people with disabilities and Indigenous Communities)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Response and recovery support to COVID-19<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">IV. Call for Project Proposals<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Project proposals are invited from NGOs, CBOs and FBOs focusing on conservation of the ecosystems and focal areas listed above.&nbsp; In addition, proposed projects should demonstrate the following attributes: &#8211;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">(i) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Consistency with country priorities as articulated in National Development Frameworks<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">(ii) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Poverty-oriented focus: indicating that grantees (Providing their numbers in gender disaggregated form) will be less poor on a sustainable basis at project completion<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">(iii) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Address gender issues at project formulation, implementation, (Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) and benefit sharing stages<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">(iv) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Innovation and show plans for scaling up<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">(v)`&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Provide proof that ownership of the proposed projects lies with the local grantees<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">(vi)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Clearly indicate that supported grantees will be able to co-finance at least 25% of total project costs in-cash and in-kind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">(vii) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Provide a work plan with monitoring and evaluation indicators<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">(viii) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The project proposals should clearly show how they will contribute towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">(ix) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The project budgets presented in Tanzania shillings should not exceed the equivalent of US$ 50,000<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Please submit project proposals by close of Business on Friday 30TH October 2020 to:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Resident Representative<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">UNDP<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">O.
