McNamara Fellowships Program (RSMFP)<\/b>\u00a0matches aspiring development economics researchers from developing countries with World Bank research economists, creating unique opportunities for the fellows to participate in rigorous policy-relevant research in the World Bank\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/about\/unit\/unit-dec#1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Development Economics<\/a>\u00a0Vice Presidency (DEC). Fellows will be hosted at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. for 8 months (September to May each year) and work under the supervision of researchers in the World Bank\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/research\/dime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Development Impact Evaluation (DIME)<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/about\/unit\/unit-dec#4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Development Research Group<\/a>\u00a0departments, engaging in high-quality and policy-relevant research projects.<\/p>\n<p>By working with World Bank DEC researchers and their external academic collaborators from top universities, <a title=\"Assistant Research Fellow (Natural Resources Management)(Re-Advertised) \u2013 2 Post\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/assistant-research-fellow-natural-resources-managementre-advertised-2-post\">fellows will learn current research<\/a> standards, acquire new econometric skills, and network with leading researchers in their field. They will have a unique <a title=\"Research Opportunities\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/research-opportunities\">opportunity to participate in rigorous policy-relevant research<\/a> and widen their perspective on potential development questions, and how their research can address challenges in the developing world.<\/p>\n<p><b>The window for applications for the 2023 cohort will be open from March 6 to April 3.\u00a0We will only contact references of shortlisted candidates.<\/b><\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Key_Program_Features\"><b>Key Program Features<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><b>Professional experience<\/b>: Fellows will work on World Bank projects under the direct supervision of World Bank DEC researchers and will be offered <a title=\"Botany and Ecology Field Practical Training at Saadani National Park\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/botany-and-ecology-field-practical-training-at-saadani-national-park\">training on cutting-edge research practices<\/a> and technologies and engage with the World Bank operations. Depending on the nature of projects, fellows may contribute to DEC\u2019s published work, co-author with DEC researchers, join field missions, or directly engage with World Bank clients.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"International Environmental Governance Capacity Building\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/international-environmental-governance-capacity-building\"><b>Capacity building<\/b>:\u00a0 Fellows will receive a one-week technical onboarding at the start of the program, including training on reproducible research practices<\/a>. During the program, fellows will participate in hands-on trainings and seminars by top economist, to further build skills. Through their work with DEC economists, fellows will enhance their ability to identify, study, and write about important development policy questions.<\/p>\n<p><b>Research dissemination<\/b>: Fellows will be invited to write a blog based on their <a title=\"3-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/3-year-postdoctoral-research-fellowship\">fellowship research<\/a> within DEC. This is an opportunity to showcase their research and contribution to development policy discussions. Each year, the top 4 blogs will be published on DEC\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.worldbank.org\/developmenttalk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Let&#8217;s Talk Development<\/a>\u00a0blog.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Compensation_Benefits\"><b>Compensation &amp; Benefits<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The RSMFP offers a competitive compensation, totaling $44,888 net of income taxes per fellow for an 8-month fellowship (paid in monthly installments). Since the fellows will be hosted at the World Bank in Washington D.C., the World Bank\u2019s HR Operations unit will assist the selected candidates with their ap\u00adplication for G4 visa.<\/p>\n<p><i>Note:<\/i>\u00a0The fellowship does not cover travel expenses.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Financing\"><b>Financing<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The RSMFP was established in 1982 by a resolution of the Executive Directors to <a title=\"Global Biodiversity Information Facility \u2014 Young Researchers Award 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/global-biodiversity-information-facility-young-researchers-award-2023\">award fellowships to young researchers<\/a> to study in the fields related to economic development. <a title=\"Darwin Initiative: funding schemes and how to apply\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/darwin-initiative-funding-schemes-and-how-to-apply\">Funding for the program was initially<\/a> provided by the Governments of Bangladesh, China, India, Kuwait, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru and former Yugoslavia. This year, through a <a title=\"SwedBio Collaboration Program\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/swedbio-collaboration-program\">collaboration with the Joint Japan\/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program\u00a0(JJ\/WBGSP<\/a>), the Government of Japan is supporting a two-year pilot initiative providing financing for fellows from the pool of the recent graduates of the JJ\/WBGSP to compete for a fellowship opportunity with RSMFP.<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"Governance\"><b>Governance<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The RSMFP governance includes a Steering Committee, Selection Committee and a Secretariat. The Steering Committee, comprised of representatives from the World Bank <a title=\"Re-advertisement: AAS Executive Director role\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/re-advertisement-aas-executive-director-role\">Executive Director<\/a> offices of the donor countries, meets annually to review progress. The Selection Committee, comprised of <a title=\"Research and Evaluation Officer \u2013 World Agroforest (ICRAF)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/research-and-evaluation-officer-world-agroforest-icraf\">World Bank DEC directors from the research and impact evaluation<\/a> departments, makes selection decisions based on the selection criteria and fellowships development objectives.
