We conduct modelling studies and generate empirical datasets for selected livestock systems in East Africa, and in the subtropics of Latin-America that are under-represented in global studies. This doctoral research project will study productivity grasslands and key links to nutrient cycling, <a title=\"Quantification and mapping of Carbon stocks and plant diversity in different land cover types in Tanzania (2011-2014).\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/research\/quantification-and-mapping-of-carbon-stocks-and-plant-diversity-in-different-land-cover-types-in-tanzania-2011-2014\">carbon sequestration and and species diversity<\/a>. The field work will take place in the dry <a title=\"Kelp Forest Ecosystems Program\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/kelp-forest-ecosystems-program\">forest ecosystem<\/a> of the Gran Chaco of Argentina, in collaboration with researchers from CONICET, the Argentinean national research council.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your tasks:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>will be to test hypotheses on the role of grazing intensity, plant species, and livestock type on the functioning of grasslands and potential contributions to <a title=\"Managing the Eastern Arc Mountain forests for Carbon credits and emission trading; Local knowledge and climate change adaptation project (2007 \u2013 to date).\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/research\/managing-the-eastern-arc-mountain-forests-for-carbon-credits-and-emission-trading-local-knowledge-and-climate-change-adaptation-project-2007-to-date\">carbon removal and GHG emissions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What we expect from you:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 University degree (MSc.) in Agricultural Science, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or related fields.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Thorough understanding of the processes determing grassland productivity and their biogeochemistry.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Interest and experience conducting experimental research in livestock and grassland systems and interest in interdisciplinary approaches.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Experience in modelling biological or <a title=\"Call for proposal: Agro-ecological Approaches in African Agriculture Systems\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-proposal-agro-ecological-approaches-in-african-agriculture-systems\">agricultural systems<\/a>, with programming skills (R, Python, or Matlab) is desirable.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Good language (written and spoken English) and excellent presentation skills.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ability to work in a team, with effective interpersonal coomunication skills.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Willingness to assist with the supervision of BSc, and MSc-level reserach.<\/p>\n<p>Our offer:<\/p>\n<p>We offer an interesting and <a title=\"Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/seeding-the-future-global-food-system-challenge\">challenging job in a motivating and expanding international team at the Chair of Livestock Systems<\/a> of TUM. The chair has a broad network of collaborators across Europe (e.g. Lancaster University, The University of Manchester, Wageningen University, University Giessen, G\u00f6ttingen University, GFZ Potsdam, University of Galway), Africa and the Americas. The Chair of Livestock Systems is newly established at TUM and includes several postdocs, <a title=\"Field visit by supervisors for REFOREST PhD student\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/field-visit-by-supervisors-for-reforest-phd-student\">PhD students<\/a>, and technical staff. The team works on various topics, including multi-scale analyses of productivity, nutrient and <a title=\"Water, Climate, and Biodiversity\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/water-climate-and-biodiversity\">water<\/a> cycling in livestock systems, grassland restoration, GHG emissions from livestock systems, and global changes impacts on crop-livestock systems. Freising is a charming University city in the vicinity to the vibrant city of Munich, very well connected by train (ca. 30 minutes), and a perfect starting point to explore the Bavarian Alps and the rest of Germany.<\/p>\n<p>Working hours are flexible and remuneration is in accordance with TUM regulations (TV-L E13 65%). Severely disabled persons will be given preference in the case of essentially equal suitability and qualifications.
