Please carefully read all the information available below.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span id=\"RRF_criteria\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">RRF criteria:<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n<h5><span id=\"1_The_site_must_be_located_in_an_eligible_country\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>1. The site must be located in an eligible country:<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">RRF <a title=\"Major Research Grant Development Finance\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/major-research-grant-development-finance\">grants are restricted to countries that are eligible for \u2018official development<\/a> assistance\u2019 according to the OECD. A list of countries that are eligible for RRF funding can be found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd.org\/dac\/financing-sustainable-development\/development-finance-standards\/DAC-List-of-ODA-Recipients-for-reporting-2022-23-flows.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Overseas territories of <a title=\"Funding: Waste Management in Developing Countries\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/funding-waste-management-in-developing-countries\">developed countries<\/a> may occasionally be considered, please contact the Secretariat for advice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span id=\"2_The_site_must_be_a_listed_UNESCO_natural_World_Heritage_site_or_an_internationally_recognised_site_of_high_biodiversity_value\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">2. The site must be a listed UNESCO natural World Heritage site (or an internationally recognised site of high biodiversity value):<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">RRF grants are available for <a title=\"UNESCO World Heritage Center \u2014 Requests for International Assistance\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/unesco-world-heritage-center-requests-for-international-assistance\">UNESCO natural World Heritage<\/a> sites. The list of UNESCO World Heritage sites can be found\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>; please note UNESCO cultural World Heritage sites are not eligible for RRF funding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">In rare cases, we may also consider other high-priority <a title=\"Rainforest Trust: Creating New Protected Areas\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/rainforest-trust-creating-new-protected-areas\">protected areas<\/a> including;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>1) Sites on the tentative World Heritage list<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">We occasionally accept applications from sites on \u2018tentative\u2019 lists, which can be found\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/tentativelists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>. We only consider sites included under natural or mixed categories.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>2) Other eligible sites<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">In exceptional circumstances the Rapid Response Facility may provide grants for places other than World Heritage sites. These would need to be one of the following:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><br \/>\n&#8211; a site that directly impacts the \u2018outstanding universal values\u2019 (OUV) of a natural World Heritage site.\u00a0<\/strong>This includes sites that are in close proximity to a natural World Heritage site, where the threat would impact the biodiversity within the World Heritage site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>&#8211;\u00a0sites with other international designations.<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Such as;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">UNESCO Man &amp; <a title=\"Award for Biosphere Reserve Management\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/award-for-biosphere-reserve-management\">Biosphere Reserves<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Ramsar sites<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Applications for actions outside the World Heritage site network must clearly demonstrate the <a title=\"Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) invites proposals for project funding\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/global-biodiversity-information-facility-gbif-invites-proposals-for-project-funding\">global significance of the site\u2019s biodiversity in order to qualify for funding<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span id=\"3_Applications_must_address_a_sudden_emergency_situation\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">3. Applications must address a sudden emergency situation:<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The RRF only <a title=\"Conservation Action Fund\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/conservation-action-fund\">funds actions<\/a> at a site facing an \u2018emergency\u2019 threat to its biodiversity. We do not <a title=\"Innovation Fund for Anticipatory Humanitarian Action\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/innovation-fund-for-anticipatory-humanitarian-action\">fund on-going issues even if they require urgent action<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The RRF\u2019s definition of emergency is based on the following criteria, all of which will be considered during the decision process:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">1)\u00a0<em>Suddenness:<\/em>\u00a0How recently has the threat emerged or worsened? RRF only consider a situation an emergency if it has arisen in the last few months or weeks, or if the intensity of an existing threat has got suddenly worse. RRF advise applicants to <a title=\"Recent scientific briefs provide information about the Global Biodiversity Framework goals.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/recent-scientific-briefs-provide-information-about-the-global-biodiversity-framework-goals\">provide evidence of any recent<\/a> increases in the threat profile where possible.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">2)\u00a0<em>Predictability:<\/em>\u00a0Based on past experience, how predictable was the situation? The RRF prioritises funding for situations where the threat was unpredictable and thus difficult to prepare for in advance.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">3)\u00a0<em>Time sensitivity:<\/em>\u00a0Will there be a measurable conservation benefit if work starts immediately (within days \/ 1-2 weeks), rather than in months or years? The RRF prioritises projects that require immediate assistance.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">4)\u00a0<em>Duration and reversibility of impact:<\/em>\u00a0Does the <a title=\"CBD COP 15 Event Warns of Threats from Loss of Soil Biodiversity\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/cbd-cop-15-event-warns-of-threats-from-loss-of-soil-biodiversity\">threat have the potential to cause long-lasting negative impact to the biodiversity<\/a> value of the site? The RRF prioritises actions that avert irreversible damage or reduce long-term negative impacts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Applications must meet most or all of these criteria in order to qualify for funding. Those that do not meet the criteria are likely to be rejected by the Secretariat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5><span id=\"4_Applications_must_be_from_an_eligible_organisation\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">4. Applications must be from an eligible organisation:<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The RRF can make <a title=\"CALL FOR PROPOSALS: GEF SMALL GRANTS PROGRAMME\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-proposals-gef-small-grants-programme\">grants to any organisation that has permission to work at the proposed<\/a> site. The RRF does not make grants to individuals.
