Velux Stiftung\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.fundsforngos.org\/category\/latest-funds-for-ngos\/\">call for proposals<\/a>\u00a0on innovative, sustainable and integrative forest management may be just what you\u2019re looking for!<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">This call for proposals in forestry is focused on developing or integrating solutions for adapting to or mitigating\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.fundsforngos.org\/category\/environment\/\">climate change<\/a>, promoting biodiversity, providing resilient ecosystems services while supplying sustainable forest products. They\u2019re also seeking proposals that incentivize action and behavioral change, transforming the theoretical and abstract values of forest products and services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">Your proposal can be for an implementation-oriented\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.fundsforngos.org\/category\/research\/\">research<\/a>\u00a0project that includes stakeholder engagement and has a high potential to foster change in practice. Alternatively, your proposal can be for a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.fundsforngos.org\/category\/science-and-technology\/\">science<\/a>\u00a0practice network that co-develop or implement approaches that contribute towards the goals of the program. class=\"selectionShareable\"><strong>Vision<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Innovative sustainable <a title=\"Arthropods in high-diversity forests contribute to improved productivity\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/arthropods-in-high-diversity-forests-contribute-to-improved-productivity\">forest management practices are used widely and contribute to climate change mitigation, the adaptation of forests to climate change and the fostering of biodiversity without neglecting that there is a global demand for forest products<\/a>, including timber and non-timber forest products (NTFPs).<\/li>\n<li>Stakeholders like scientists, forest managers, forest owners,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.fundsforngos.org\/category\/indigenous-communities\/\">indigenous<\/a>\u00a0people and smallholders, policy makers and conservationists communicate and work hand in hand towards resilient forest ecosystems that consider the local context.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\"><strong>Goals<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The program shall contribute to a <a title=\"ICRC: Climate change and conflict combine to increase humanitarian needs in the Middle East\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/icrc-climate-change-and-conflict-combine-to-increase-humanitarian-needs-in-the-middle-east\">change of perspective in the use and value of forests and sustainable forest management addressing the pressing issues of climate change and biodiversity loss as well as society\u2019s need<\/a> for forest products, including timber and non-timber forest products (NTFPs).<\/li>\n<li>The envisioned <a title=\"Women in Climate Change Science\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/uncategorized\/women-in-climate-change-science\">change of perspective shall be solution-oriented and based on an interaction between science<\/a> and practitioners.<\/li>\n<li>Financial <a title=\"Calling for innovative ocean-minded startups\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/calling-for-innovative-ocean-minded-startups\">innovation<\/a> and improved framework conditions shall offer leverage to implement sustainable forest management providing forests which can maintain biodiversity, act as a carbon sink and supply forest products.<\/li>\n<li>The <a title=\"Kelp Forest Ecosystems Program\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/kelp-forest-ecosystems-program\">program<\/a> contributes towards \u201cmaintaining and fostering the stability of ecosystems\u201d worldwide, as the statutes of Velux Stiftung claim.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><span id=\"Thematic_Focus\"><strong>Thematic Focus<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Innovative, sustainable and integrative forest management to develop and provide solutions for adapting to or mitigating climate change, <a title=\"New guide promotes biodiversity conservation in hydropower development\" supplying sustainable forest products, e.g.:\n<ul>\n<li>Quantify the effect of new integrative management practices on <a title=\"Postdoc \u2013 scenarios for forests ecosystem services\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/postdoc-scenarios-for-forests-ecosystem-services\">ecosystem services<\/a> at landscape level to provide different options for stakeholders<\/li>\n<li>Identify and develop management scenarios for climate change and extreme events aiming to offer decision support for forest owners<\/li>\n<li>Develop methodological approaches for making projections for robust solutions in long-lived <a title=\"Ecosystems and Conservation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/ecosystems-and-conservation\">ecosystems<\/a> in a high-dimensional uncertainty space \u2013 Etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Incentives for action and behavioural change by transforming theoretical and <a title=\"Call of Abstracts\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-of-abstracts\">abstract<\/a> values of forest products and services, e.g.:\n<ul>\n<li>Assessing the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.fundsforngos.org\/category\/economic-development\/\">economic<\/a>\u00a0value of non-commercial goods such as ecosystem services, biodiversity, cultural heritage and the prospective value of damage avoidance<\/li>\n<li>Specify the impact of timber certification on a local and\/or global scale<\/li>\n<li>Improve the mechanisms of or methods for <a title=\"Training on applied ethnobotany and the use of payments for ecosystem services\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/training-on-applied-ethnobotany-and-the-use-of-payments-for-ecosystem-services\">payments of ecosystem services<\/a> (PES), such as forest carbon or biodiversity credits \u2013 Etc.<\/li>\n<li>The priority is set on <a title=\"European School of Sustainability Science and Research- Doctoral Programme on Climate Change Adaptation by Publications\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/european-school-of-sustainability-science-and-research-doctoral-programme-on-climate-change-adaptation-by-publications\">research addressing neglected issues whose results have a high potential to contribute to change<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><span id=\"Funding_Information\"><strong>Funding Information<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Projects may <a title=\"How forest loss has changed biodiversity across the globe over the last 150 years\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/how-forest-loss-has-changed-biodiversity-across-the-globe-over-the-last-150-years\">last from 1 to 4 years<\/a>, and funding of up to CHF 100,000 per year is available, with at least 10% to be used for knowledge transfer. <a title=\"Tech4Nature partners announce project to study impact of tourism on biodiversity in Spain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/tech4nature-partners-announce-project-to-study-impact-of-tourism-on-biodiversity-in-spain\">Projects with several partners<\/a> are possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\"><strong>Geographical focus<\/strong>: Projects dealing with all <a title=\"Consultancy services on assessment of forest planning and management in different forest types in selected African countries\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/consultancy-services-on-assessment-of-forest-planning-and-management-in-different-forest-types-in-selected-african-countries\">types of forests:<\/a> boreal, temperate, tropical and subtropical forests are welcome.<\/p>\n<h5><span id=\"Eligibility_Criteria\"><strong>Eligibility Criteria<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>They <a title=\"Welcome\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/\">welcome<\/a> projects with several partners. At least one partner needs to be from a university or a research institution. Other partners can be <a title=\"Tanzania Association of Foresters (TAF): The 20th Annual Scientific Meeting 2023 &amp; 28th Annual General Meeting\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/tanzania-association-of-foresters-taf-the-20th-annual-scientific-meeting-2023-28th-annual-general-meeting\">forest owners or practitioner associations<\/a>, consulting or (non-) governmental agencies. The PI needs to be a person with a permanent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.fundsforngos.org\/category\/employment-labor\/\">employment<\/a>\u00a0status. The PI\u2019s organization needs to be tax-exempted.<\/li>\n<li>While they <a title=\"Research Support Grants\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/research-support-grants\">support research<\/a> worldwide, they also welcome applications from Swiss institutions or transboundary partnerships. They ask that a collaboration is clearly delineated and follows the principles for fair and equal partnership.<\/li>\n<li>Possible types of applications <a title=\"Undergraduate Students\u2019 Research Project Presentation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/undergraduate-students-research-project-presentation\">Research projects:<\/a> Funding for innovative, outside-of-the-box, interdisciplinary, implementation- or transfer-oriented research projects with a high potential to foster change in practice.
