Come and join us<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment, and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart <a title=\"Spatial Data Scientist\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/spatial-data-scientist\">data<\/a>, and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions, and businesses in their strategies.<\/p>\n<p>With global change increasingly triggering hydro-climatological extremes, we aim at <a title=\"Developing curricula for biodiversity monitoring and conservation in Tanzania (CONTAN)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/developing-curricula-for-biodiversity-monitoring-and-conservation-in-tanzania-contan\">developing and improving satellite EO-based tools for monitoring<\/a> and predicting natural disasters at a large scale. Our research activities are wired around fundamental and applied questions related to an optimal combination of <a title=\"Training on Remote Sensing and GIS-based analysis for land cover change assessment\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/training-on-remote-sensing-and-gis-based-analysis-for-land-cover-change-assessment\">remote sensing<\/a> measurements and numerical modeling-based simulations to better understand and predict variations of key environmental variables.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How will you contribute?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leading the group\u2019s development, implementation, and evaluation efforts related to Digital Twins, i.e. high precision digital replicas of Earth <a title=\"FBA 604: Component Interactions in Agroforestry Systems\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/study\/fba-604-component-interactions-in-agroforestry-systems\">system components<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Integrating data streams from the global flood awareness system (GLOFAS) and the global flood <a title=\"Guidelines for developing national biodiversity monitoring systems\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/guidelines-for-developing-national-biodiversity-monitoring-systems\">monitoring system<\/a> (GFMS) in order to enable improved hydrological predictions at large scale<\/li>\n<li>Developing and implementing methodologies enabling effective assimilation of multi-source satellite EO data, crowd-sourced data, and in situ measured data into flood inundation models (e.g., flooding-related parameters derived from Synthetic Aperture Radar and optical remote sensing data) and other types of environmental models,<\/li>\n<li>Coupling hydraulic models with hydrological and atmospheric models to predict extreme events and anticipate <a title=\"Open Call: Integrating Climate Change &amp; Biodiversity into the Forest Management of the Future\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/open-call-integrating-climate-change-biodiversity-into-the-forest-management-of-the-future\">future changes<\/a> in flood intensity and frequency,<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"FSP 300 Research Project I: Research Methods and Proposal development\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/study\/fsp-300-research-project-i-research-methods-and-proposal-development\">Developing research proposals<\/a> to secure funding at national and international levels,<\/li>\n<li>Collaborating to <a title=\"United Nations Industrial Development Organisation \u2014 Innovative Solutions towards Net-Zero\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/united-nations-industrial-development-organisation-innovative-solutions-towards-net-zero\">develop industrial and research partnerships and networks at national<\/a> and international levels,<\/li>\n<li>Disseminating and <a title=\"Papers published during 2014\/2015 by staff in various international journals;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/papers-published-during-2014-2015-by-staff-in-various-international-journals\">publishing the results of your research in top-ranked scientific journals and international<\/a> conferences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Moreover, you will contribute to the dissemination, valorisation, and transfer of RDI results through:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Software licensing,<\/li>\n<li>Participation in the drafting of technical reports, scientific articles, patents, and inventions,<\/li>\n<li>Participation in the implementation of technological solutions (proofs-of-concept, prototypes).\u200d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Education<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ph.D. in hydrology, hydraulics, remote sensing, applied mathematics, geophysics, environmental sciences, civil\/environmental engineering (or related subjects).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Experience and skills<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Advanced theoretical and hands-on knowledge in hydraulic modeling, in particular, flood inundation modeling<\/li>\n<li>Advanced skills in data assimilation<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of flood hazard and <a title=\"FBE 609 Ecological Risk and Impact Assessment\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/study\/fbe-609-ecological-risk-and-impact-assessment\">risk assessment<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Experience with the processing of satellite Earth Observation data<\/li>\n<li>Solid programming skills in Python.
