The\u00a0<\/span>United<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Nations<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Capital<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Development<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Fund<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(UNCDF)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>makes<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>public<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>private finance work for the poor in the world\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>46<\/span>\u00a0least developed countries. With its capital<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>mandate<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>instruments,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>UNCDF<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>offers<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201clast<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>mile\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>finance<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>models<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>that unlock<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>public<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>private<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>resources,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>especially<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>at<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>domestic<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>level,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>reduce poverty and support local economic<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>development.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Funguo\u00a0Innovation Programme<\/a> (also simply referred to as FUNGUO) is a UNDP Initiative funded by the European Union as part of the \u201cBusiness Environment, Growth and Innovation\u201d (BEGIN) Programme. Other funders include UNDP itself and the UK Government through the Africa Technology and Innovation Partnerships (ATIP). The programme aims to increase the number of successfully scaled innovative startup<\/a> companies. It does so by addressing the challenges and gaps in the innovation ecosystem<\/a> that hinder the scaling of innovative impact ventures, while fostering an environment that supports innovation for development and empowers innovators, entrepreneurs, and enablers. UNDP Tanzania leads the programme implementation in partnership<\/a> with UNCDF, and works in close collaboration with COSTECH, ICT Commission among and other partners.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After the successful launch and execution of the 1<\/span>st<\/span><\/span>\u00a0funding round which resulted in 26 impact-driven startups, FUNGUO is pleased to announce its second call<\/a> which considers lessons learned and feedback received.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through this Request for Applications (RfA), FUNGUO continues to identify legally registered impact-driven startups and scalable innovative SMEs, majority-owned by Tanzanians. As a conscious effort to encourage and promote women innovators and entrepreneurs,\u00a0<\/span>at least 30%<\/span>\u00a0of the funds available for this round will be exclusively reserved for women-founded or women-led startup companies.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The geographic scope of the intervention is the country of Tanzania. To be eligible, applicants must be registered and\u00a0<\/span>operating<\/span>\u202fin\u202fTanzania.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Selected applicants will\u00a0<\/span>sign<\/a><\/span>\u00a0a Performance-Based Agreement (PBA) with UNCDF.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

FUNGUO<\/span>\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>contribution\u00a0<\/span>will be\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>form<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>an equity-free<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>responsible<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>grant<\/a> ranging\u00a0<\/span>from\u00a0<\/span><\/span>TZS\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>50 million\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>TZ<\/span>S<\/span>\u00a0100 million<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>FUNGUO<\/span>\u00a0will award\u00a0<\/span>up to\u00a0<\/span>2<\/span>8<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>applications depending on the\u00a0<\/span>requested amount,\u00a0<\/span>compliance with\u00a0<\/span>eligibility, and\u00a0<\/span>selection criteria.\u00a0<\/span>Applicants\u00a0<\/span>must\u00a0<\/span>apply independently<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
