The main contact point for support with applications will be enquiries@redaa.org.<\/p>\n<p>Before applying, applicants should read the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.redaa.org\/grant-call-1-resources\"><strong>Grant Call 1 Resources<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Overview of this call<br \/>\n<\/strong>REDAA <a title=\"Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) invites proposals for project funding\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/global-biodiversity-information-facility-gbif-invites-proposals-for-project-funding\">invites proposals<\/a> for locally led initiatives to improve evidence, tools, and governance that can help people and nature thrive together in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia. All proposals should positively address <a title=\"Funding: Climate-resilient Action in African Countries\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/funding-climate-resilient-action-in-african-countries\">action for nature and climate<\/a> and gender equality and social inclusion. Proposals should also focus on one or more of the thematic priorities (further explained in the \u2018Thematic priorities\u2019 section below):<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Local research and capability for research<br \/>\n2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Resource and <a title=\"Training on Remote Sensing and GIS-based analysis for land cover change assessment\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/training-on-remote-sensing-and-gis-based-analysis-for-land-cover-change-assessment\">land use assessments<\/a><br \/>\n3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Business models<br \/>\n4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Financing mechanisms<br \/>\n5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Inclusive <a title=\"Forest Governance Scholarship for PhD\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/forest-governance-scholarship-for-phd\">governance<\/a> systems<\/p>\n<p>Successful proposals will receive &#8216;Project Grants&#8217;. These are medium-scale grants between \u00a3200,000 and \u00a3500,000 (GBP) for research-to-action initiatives lasting two to four years. Following this first <a title=\"Call for Projects 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-projects-2023\">call it is expected that up to 21 Project<\/a> Grants will be awarded via a two-stage proposal process: Stage 1 for Concept Notes; followed by Stage 2 for Full Proposals.\u00a0Only applicants who are successful at Stage 1 will be invited to <a title=\"SUBMIT YOUR SESSION PROPOSAL: World Biodiversity Forum\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/submit-your-session-proposal-world-biodiversity-forum\">submit Full Proposals<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to reading the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.redaa.org\/grant-call-1-resources\"><strong>Guidance for Applicants document<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0applicants should refer to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.redaa.org\/strategy-research-action-programme-redaa\"><strong>REDAA Strategy<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0for information about the programme\u2019s rationale, aims, approach, main actions and development. They will also address one or more of the following thematic priorities:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Local research and capability for research<\/strong><br \/>\nLocally led evidence generation, including on <a title=\"Managing the Eastern Arc Mountain forests for Carbon credits and emission trading; Local knowledge and climate change adaptation project (2007 \u2013 to date).\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/research\/managing-the-eastern-arc-mountain-forests-for-carbon-credits-and-emission-trading-local-knowledge-and-climate-change-adaptation-project-2007-to-date\">local and traditional knowledge<\/a>, and developing local research capability, local research networks and appropriate data systems, and installing local research into national or regional information systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Resource and land use assessments<\/strong><br \/>\nIntegrated multi-objective participatory <a title=\"Assistant Research Fellow (Natural Resources Management)(Re-Advertised) \u2013 2 Post\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/assistant-research-fellow-natural-resources-managementre-advertised-2-post\">natural resource<\/a> and land use assessments, and decision support tools such as scenarios and spatial analyses that incorporate biophysical, social, political and economic data and information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Business models<\/strong><br \/>\nDevelopment by non-profit and community organisations, and co-development with enterprise partners, of productive business models based on <a title=\"Ecosystems and Conservation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/ecosystems-and-conservation\">ecosystem<\/a> goods and services that are sustainable, equitable and climate-resilient.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Financing mechanisms<\/strong><br \/>\nEstablishment of finance mechanisms and finance flows for locally led initiatives that are direct, patient and long-term.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Inclusive governance systems\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nImprovements by locally led initiatives of the security of tenure and resource rights of Indigenous people and local communities, and of inter-disciplinary, cross-sectoral and multi-stakeholder decision-making and governance of landscapes, ecosystems and <a title=\"Africa\u2019s land and forest restoration initiative gathers pace\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/africas-land-and-forest-restoration-initiative-gathers-pace\">restoration initiatives<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More information on these themes can be found in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.redaa.org\/strategy-research-action-programme-redaa\"><strong>REDAA Strategy<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Geographic focus<br \/>\n<\/strong>REDAA supports research-to-action initiatives in <a title=\"BID call for proposals: Sub-Saharan Africa 2020\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/bid-call-for-proposals-sub-saharan-africa-2020\">sub-Saharan Africa<\/a>, South Asia and Southeast Asia. A full list of eligible countries is available in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.redaa.org\/grant-call-1-resources\"><strong>Guidance for Applicants document<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Initiatives can operate in more than one country, and may seek to tackle transboundary drivers of environmental degradation; however, this is not a requirement.<\/p>\n<p>REDAA encourages action in certain ecologies and landscape types to <a title=\"Protected and Conserved Area Fund\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/protected-and-conserved-area-fund\">protect<\/a>, conserve, restore and\/or manage sustainably terrestrial, freshwater and coastal ecosystems. However, REDAA does not prescribe a list of specific landscapes in which it aims to support initiatives. Rather, it encourages potential grantees to demonstrate in their proposals the rationale for their choice of location and scale of their operation. Please refer to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.redaa.org\/grant-call-1-resources\"><strong>Guidance for Applicants document<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>for more information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility Criteria<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Lead Organisations<\/strong><br \/>\nConcept Notes must name one Lead Organisation. This will be the organisation that will make an agreement with the REDAA <a title=\"CALL FOR PROPOSALS: GEF SMALL GRANTS PROGRAMME\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-proposals-gef-small-grants-programme\">programme and receive a grant<\/a>, if the proposal is successful, and will be ultimately responsible for delivery and management of the project, including management of any partners and sub-grantees.<\/p>\n<p>Lead Organisations based within one of the three focal regions (sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia or Southeast Asia) will be prioritised for funding. A minority of <a title=\"Local Project Support\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/local-project-support\">projects with lead organisations based outside the region or country of focus may be considered for funding if the proposals demonstrate strong partnerships with locally<\/a> led organisations.<\/p>\n<p>Lead Organisations must be able to demonstrate that they are:<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Non-profit organisations<\/strong>, which may be non-governmental organisations, research institutions or community-based organisations that are legally registered in the countries in which they operate<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u00a0Experienced<\/strong>\u00a0in the kind of work they propose to undertake<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u00a0Financially sound\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u00a0Staffed with the appropriate <a title=\"Technical Manager Climate Projects, Sustainable Technologies (ST) \u2013 Africa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/technical-manager-climate-projects-sustainable-technologies-st-africa\">technical and financial capacity<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and expertise to manage and implement projects successfully and deliver technical and financial reporting.<\/p>\n<p>At Concept Note stage, the last three years of audited accounts for the Lead Organisation are requested, along with information about the average turnover (income) in GBP over the last three years.\u00a0<strong>The expected annual expenditure of the <a title=\"African Elephant Conservation Fund invites project proposal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/african-elephant-conservation-fund-invites-project-proposal\">proposed project<\/a> must be no more than 25% of this average annual turnover\/income figure. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Partner Organisations and sub-grantees<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Lead Organisation may partner with one or more other organisations, including formation of a research consortium where applicable. In projects where Partner Organisations are involved, the project should be co-designed with those partners. Government agencies and inter-governmental and UN agencies may be vital project partners, and we strongly encourage such partnership, but they will not be eligible to receive <a title=\"Funguo Innovation Programme 2nd Funding Round\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/funguo-innovation-programme-2nd-funding-round\">funding from the REDAA programme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Partner Organisations which may also be eligible sub-grantees include:<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Other non-profit organisations<\/strong>, which may be non-governmental organisations, research institutions or community-based organisations<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Private sector organisations<\/strong>, businesses or business associations, which may be subcontracted to undertake specific planned actions for the project, provided this <a title=\"Launching of the Development Corridors Partnership (DCP) Project in Tanzania\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/launching-of-the-development-corridors-partnership-dcp-project-in-tanzania\">partnership can demonstrate value for money in its costs and benefits to the project<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Detailed information on eligibility is provided in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.redaa.org\/grant-call-1-resources\"><strong>Guidance for Applicants document<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Webinar for potential grant applicants<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>20 June, 9:30-10:30am British Summer Time (UTC+1)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>REDAA will be hosting a webinar for potential grant applicants on 20 June 2023. The GCBC is <a title=\"Environment Fund\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/environment-fund\">funded by the UK\u2019s Department for Environment<\/a>, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), and managed in partnership with DAI Global and Royal Botanic Gardens Kew (RBG Kew).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/idrc-crdi.ca\/en\/initiative\/climate-adaptation-and-resilience-clare\"><strong>Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE)<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nCLARE is a Canada-UK partnership to enable socially inclusive and sustainable <a title=\"Dreaming big on climate action means finding the money to pay for it\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/dreaming-big-on-climate-action-means-finding-the-money-to-pay-for-it\">action to build resilience to climate change<\/a> and natural hazards for people across the Global South.
