The successful candidate will primarily focus on leading diverse water modeling activities and upscaling different water data-based solutions to be developed under various projects in the MENA region, such as the water dashboards and the Water Accounting Plus tool.<\/p>\n<p>Experience in remote sensing data handling and applying data science techniques for water and land management (e.g., Python), and <a title=\"Funding for Climate or Clean Energy Projects\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/funding-for-climate-or-clean-energy-projects-3\">climate<\/a> change-related aspects within the agricultural system is required. Furthermore, knowledge in integrated food, land, water, and <a title=\"Energy Globe Award for Sustainability \u2014 Awards 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/uncategorized\/energy-globe-award-for-sustainability-awards-2023\">energy<\/a> systems for climate-resilient landscapes will be of added value.<\/p>\n<p>\u200d<\/p>\n<p><strong>DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contribute to the different water modeling and assessment works in the Central West Asia\/Middle East and North Africa region using the Water Accounting Plus tool and other modeling frameworks (physical and conceptual).<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to a growing MENA region&#8217;s portfolio of work related to the management of water and land resources, climate services, water data science, and digital innovation, national policies, and <a title=\"National Bamboo Development Strategy and Action Plan\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/development-of-the-national-bamboo-development-strategy-and-action-plan\">strategies for achieving national and regional development<\/a> priorities.<\/li>\n<li>Lead high-quality and innovative applied <a title=\"FSP 300 Research Project I: Research Methods and Proposal development\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/study\/fsp-300-research-project-i-research-methods-and-proposal-development\">research and proposal development<\/a> on key research areas, such as large-scale integrated water resources assessment, water security, integrated river basin management, and future intersectoral water allocation that balances up- and downstream needs.<\/li>\n<li>Develop capacity building training modules and awareness-raising activities on water modeling and assessment.<\/li>\n<li>Organize stakeholder <a title=\"Vacant: Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic, Research And Consultancy)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/vacant-deputy-vice-chancellor-academic-research-and-consultancy\">consultations and meetings and disseminate research<\/a> findings.<\/li>\n<li>Initiate, develop, and sustain collaboration with research and public and private sector partners active in MENA&#8217;s water and agricultural sectors.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare research reports, scientific publications, policy briefs, and <a title=\"FBA 609: Agroforestry Technologies Dissemination &amp; Extension\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/study\/fba-609-agroforestry-technologies-dissemination-extension\">extension materials to disseminate<\/a> and uptake research outputs.<\/li>\n<li>Identify new <a title=\"Call for proposals to support Africa\u2019s Science Granting Councils in funding and managing research and innovation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-proposals-to-support-africas-science-granting-councils-in-funding-and-managing-research-and-innovation\">research trends and niches and develop multi-year multi-partner proposals for innovative<\/a> research.<\/li>\n<li>Plan and execute the processing of large-scale digital imagery and GIS information layers using specialized image processing software such as ERDAS Imagine, ArcGIS, or similar software.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u200d<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS &amp; EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PhD in Water resources modeling, Hydrology\/Agro-hydrology, <a title=\"Training on Remote Sensing and GIS-based analysis for land cover change assessment\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/training-on-remote-sensing-and-gis-based-analysis-for-land-cover-change-assessment\">Remote Sensing<\/a>, and Data science in Water\/land management, or any closely related discipline.<\/li>\n<li>At least 3 <a title=\"FIELD PRACTICAL TRAINING FOR BSC. FORESTRY- FIRST YEAR STUDENTS UNDERTAKING COURSE OF FUNDAMENTALS OF ECOLOGY (FBL 102)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/field-practical-training-for-bsc-forestry-first-year-students-undertaking-course-of-fundamentals-of-ecology-fbl-102\">years of post-doctoral or a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the field<\/a> of large-scale integrated modeling assessment, preferably with a focus on water resources management in a developing country\/arid or semi-arid context. (Experience in MENA would be a plus.)<\/li>\n<li>Proven experience in the use of statistical software and programming codes (ideally Python).<\/li>\n<li>Experience in developing and\/or managing solutions for scaling sustainable and resilient irrigation water management.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in hydrologic modeling and a good understanding of basin-scale hydrologic processes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS &amp; ABILITIES REQUIRED:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proficiency in handling large remote sensing and GIS <a title=\"Spatial Data Scientist\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/spatial-data-scientist\">data<\/a> layers.<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity with water management and agricultural development issues in MENA.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to be a great team player with good <a title=\"Community rights and REDD+ in Indonesia\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/community-rights-and-redd-in-indonesia\">communication<\/a> and organizational skills.<\/li>\n<li>A good track record of relevant publications (scientific, manuals, or other extension materials).<\/li>\n<li>Possess the drive to innovate and transform the way we think about water use in smallholder agricultural systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>LANGUAGE PROFICINECY:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Excellent oral and written language skills in English, including effective listening and strong verbal and written communication abilities.<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in Arabic and\/or French will be considered an asset.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u200d<\/p>\n<p><strong>BENEFITS:<br \/>\n<\/strong>This is a\u00a0<strong>regionally<\/strong>\u00a0recruited position with a competitive salary commensurate with experience, an attractive retirement plan, comprehensive international insurance coverage and a transportation allowance.
