The department of Forest Biodiversity is expanding, and we are announcing a PhD-fellowship within the project &#8220;Red List of Species &#8211; a tool in managing forest biodiversity&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Optionally, we may employ a postdoctoral fellow\u00a0which may become relevant if we cannot find the right candidate for a PhD candidate position.<\/p>\n<p>The main objective of the project is to make the Red List of Species more applicable as a tool in managing forest ecosystems for biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p>The position is for 3 years and it is located at NIBIOs headquarter at \u00c5s. Employment will be as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>The PhD-study will be at the faculty of Environmental <a title=\"New degree programme \u2013 Bachelor of Science Bee Resources Management\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/bachelor-of-science-bee-resources-management\">Sciences and Natural Resource Management<\/a> at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), adjacent to NIBIO at Campus \u00c5s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Main responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Norwegian Red List for Species&#8221; embraces much information which are useful in managing <a title=\"Mandatory biodiversity disclosures are coming\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/mandatory-biodiversity-disclosures-are-coming\">forest biodiversity<\/a>. However, part of this <a title=\"Call for applications for field surveyors for household survey &amp; key informant interview\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-applications-for-field-surveyors-for-household-survey-key-informant-interview\">information is not readily available and easily applicable<\/a> for practical use. The main task of the <a title=\"Call for Projects 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-projects-2023\">project<\/a> is to review and analyze available datasets, synthesizing and summarizing the results in research papers and reports, among others including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Categorizing forest-living <a title=\"Biodiversity: state of habitats and species\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/biodiversity-state-of-habitats-and-species\">species according to main habitats<\/a> and structures and assessing the proportion which is redlisted\/threatened in each category.<\/li>\n<li>Determine the proportion of redlisted <a title=\"Invasive species versus native counterparts: nature\u2019s doppelg\u00e4ngers.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/invasive-species-versus-native-counterparts-natures-doppelgangers\">species with known population trend versus<\/a> the proportion where population trend is predicted based on recent changes in focal habitats and structures.<\/li>\n<li>Calculate changes\/trends in extinction risk of species groups with different focal habitats, using <a title=\"IUCN Launches the Project \u201cEnhancing climate resilience of Biodiversity Hotspots in Jordan\u201d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/iucn-launches-the-project-enhancing-climate-resilience-of-biodiversity-hotspots-in-jordan\">IUCNs<\/a> Red List Index based on the four latest editions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a title=\"Call for interviews: Tutorial Assistant, Assistant Lecturer, Assistant Research Fellow &amp; Lecturer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-interviews-tutorial-assistant-assistant-lecturer-assistant-research-fellow-lecturer\">research fellow<\/a> will work closely together with the research team at the department and may also be involved and contribute on nearby research topics and field work.
