As an employer, UNIL encourages \u00a0excellence, individual recognition and responsibility.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Presentation<br \/>\n<\/strong>We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral \u00a0researcher in environmental sciences, with particular interest in \u00a0ecology, biodiversity, conservation and global change biology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job information<br \/>\n<\/strong>Expected start date in position : 01.02.2024 or to be discussed<\/p>\n<p>Contract length : 1 year, renewable 1 x 1 year, maximum 2 years<\/p>\n<p>Activity rate : 100%<\/p>\n<p>Workplace : Lausanne-Dorigny<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your responsibilities<br \/>\n<\/strong>Crop Wild Relatives (CWR) are considered the \u201ccousin\u2019s\u201d of \u00a0domesticated crop and represent a critical genepool for a more \u00a0sustainable agriculture. CWR are potential source of resilient and \u00a0diversified crops. The project Horizon COUSIN aims at identifying CWR \u00a0across Europe and sets the priorities towards their conservation. There \u00a0is a critical need for monitoring and developing locally-adapted \u00a0solution for CWR conservation and model-driven strategies can \u00a0effectively feed both for in situ and ex situ efforts.<\/p>\n<p>A postdoctoral research position is open between the Spatial Ecology \u00a0group (ECOSPAT) of Antoine Guisan at University of Lausanne, Sylvain Aubry at the \u00a0Genetic Resources section of the Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) and Blaise Petitpierre at InfoFlora (\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/jobderef\/1002514\/https%3A%2F%2Fwww.infoflora.ch%2F\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">https:\/\/www.infoflora.ch\/<\/a>\u00a0). This \u00a0position is part of a European project (COUSIN) addressing conservation, \u00a0management and utilization of CWR in Europe. The overarching goal of \u00a0this project is to identify and characterize the extent of CWR diversity \u00a0in Europe. In particular, the candidate will gather data on \u00a0distribution, phylogeny and functional diversity of CWR across Europe, \u00a0model de potential distribution of the candidate taxa using species \u00a0distribution models (SDMs), and conduct gap analysis on the state of CWR \u00a0contribution that will help model-driven in situ and ex situ \u00a0conservation planning. These results will allow setting conservation \u00a0priorities and measures adapted to the current CWR conservation \u00a0challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Salary and benefits are internationally highly competitive. The \u00a0candidate will be supervised by Blaise Petitpierre, Sylvain Aubry, \u00a0Olivier Broennimann and Antoine Guisan, and will collaborate and \u00a0interact with a broader international network of researchers and \u00a0stakeholders across Europe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your qualifications<br \/>\n<\/strong>We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and \u00a0independent person with a passion for science and nature. Talented \u00a0scientists with a PhD in environmental sciences, ecology, conservation, \u00a0and botany or related fields are particularly encouraged to apply. \u00a0Applicants are expected to have excellent quantitative skills, advanced \u00a0experience in ecological modelling, GIS, computer programming, \u00a0statistics and simulations, and a good knowledge of biogeography and \u00a0conservation planning. A high level of written and spoken English \u00a0proficiency is required. Knowledge of a second European language is a \u00a0plus but not necessary.<\/p>\n<p>You will develop your research project while working in a multicultural, \u00a0diverse, collaborative, and dynamic environment.
