Projects may focus on research in ornamental horticulture, creation and maintenance of gardens accessible to the public for educational purposes, educational activities that further ornamental horticulture, and environmentally responsible cultivation of plants which have ornamental horticultural value. Applicants include botanical gardens, arboreta, universities, and other nonprofit charitable organizations. Grants are up to US$25 thousand. The application deadline for Letters of Intent (LOIs) is 14 June 2024.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/smithht.org\/grant-seekers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>More information<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"grid-x grid-margin-x mt-lg full-width-text\">\n<div class=\"small-12 medium-10 medium-offset-1 cell\">\n<p>INTRODUCTION<br \/>\nThe first step in the application process is a Letter of Inquiry (LOI), followed by a full Proposal, if invited. An invitation to submit a Proposal does not assure <a title=\"Funguo Innovation Programme 2nd Funding Round\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/funguo-innovation-programme-2nd-funding-round\">funding<\/a>. Organizations that receive a grant are required to submit a report that confirms that the funds granted were used for the intended purpose.<\/p>\n<p>Because the Trust receives many more <a title=\"Request for Proposals: Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/request-for-proposals-illegal-wildlife-trade-challenge-fund\">requests than it is able to fund<\/a>, the application process is highly competitive. Even if a <a title=\"Call for Projects 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-projects-2023\">project<\/a> fits within the foundation\u2019s guidelines, it may not be funded. In 2023, approximately 31% of <a title=\"Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) invites proposals for project funding\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/global-biodiversity-information-facility-gbif-invites-proposals-for-project-funding\">invited proposals were funded<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a title=\"Recent scientific briefs provide information about the Global Biodiversity Framework goals.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/recent-scientific-briefs-provide-information-about-the-global-biodiversity-framework-goals\">information provided<\/a> on this website should help you determine if a request for funding is well-suited to the interests of the Trust.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) is June 14, 2024. <a title=\"African Elephant Conservation Fund invites project proposal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/african-elephant-conservation-fund-invites-project-proposal\">Invited proposals<\/a> are due July 15, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FUNDING INTERESTS<br \/>\nPlease review the Trust\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/smithht.org\/funding-interests\">Funding Interests<\/a>\u00a0for detailed information about the types of projects the Trust supports.<\/p>\n<p>SIZE, DURATION, AND TYPES OF GRANTS<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The maximum grant awarded by the Trust is $25,000, however, grants normally do not exceed $20,000. Grants may be approved for full or partial funding of the requested amount.<\/p>\n<p>The grant period during which funds should be used is the calendar year. For example, for grants awarded in November 2024, the grant period will be January 1 to December 31, 2025. It is expected that <a title=\"Call for project proposals for funding by the EAMCEF for the year 2024\/2025\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-project-proposals-for-funding-by-the-eamcef-for-the-year-2024-2025\">funds will be spent during this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Trust awards grants for project support only. Requests for general operating support are no longer accepted.
