{"id":8842,"date":"2024-01-05T10:36:47","date_gmt":"2024-01-05T07:36:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/?p=8842"},"modified":"2024-01-05T11:05:54","modified_gmt":"2024-01-05T08:05:54","slug":"2024-call-of-proposals-requesting-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/2024-call-of-proposals-requesting-grants","title":{"rendered":"2024 Call of proposals requesting grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<ol>\n<li><strong>INTRODUCTION<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Tanzania Forest Fund (abbreviated as TaFF), is a Government Fund established under Sections 79 &#8211; 83 of the Forest Act (Cap. 323 R.E. 2002). The Fund is a mechanism to provide long-term, reliable and sustainable financial support to <a title=\"FBL 301: Forest Protection\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/study\/fbl-301-forest-protection\">forest protection<\/a>, conservation, management and development in the country. The Fund came into operation in July, 2010 and started awarding grants in July 2011. The Fund is under the the Ministry of <a title=\"New publication: Eco-parcel\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/eco-parcel-an-approach-to-identify-and-describe-attractions-to-support-adapting-nature-based-tourism-destinations-to-climate-change-impacts8250\">Natural Resources and Tourism<\/a> and is governed by a Board of Trustees while day to day activities is done by the Fund Secretariat.<\/p>\n<p>The functions of Tanzania <a title=\"UB Nordic Forest Fund IV LP launched by United Bankers\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/ub-nordic-forest-fund-iv-lp-launched-by-united-bankers\">Forest Fund<\/a> are derived from its purpose and objects stipulated in Section 80 of the Forest Act [Cap. 323 R.E. 2002] as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To promote awareness of the importance of the protection, <a title=\"Postdoctoral position in modelling forest resources and development pathways\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/postdoctoral-position-in-modelling-forest-resources-and-development-pathways\">development and sustainable use of forest resources<\/a> through public education and training;<\/li>\n<li>To promote and assist in the development of community forestry directed towards the <a title=\"Oklahoma City Zoo &amp; Botanical Garden: Conservation Grants 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/oklahoma-city-zoo-botanical-garden-conservation-grants-2023\">conservation and protection of the forest resources of the country through the making of grants<\/a> and providing advice and assistance to groups of persons wishing to form themselves into a group;<\/li>\n<li>To promote and fund research into forestry;<\/li>\n<li>To assist in enabling Tanzania to benefit from international initiatives and international <a title=\"Protected and Conserved Area Fund\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/protected-and-conserved-area-fund\">funds directed towards the conservation and protection<\/a> of biological diversity and the promotion of sustainable development of forest resources;<\/li>\n<li>To assist groups of persons and individuals to participate in any public debates and discussions on forestry and in particular to participate in processes connected with the making of an <a title=\"FBL 204: Ecological Impact Assessment and Environmental Planning\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/study\/fbl-204-ecological-impact-assessment-and-environmental-planning\">environmental impact assessment<\/a> provided under section 18 of the Forest Act;<\/li>\n<li>To <a title=\"Job Vacancy: Tutorial Assistant (Forest Botany) \u2013 1 Post\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/job-vacancy-tutorial-assistant-forest-botany-1-post\">assist groups of persons and individuals to ensure compliance with the Forest<\/a> Act; and<\/li>\n<li>To promote such other activities of a like nature to those set out in this section as will advance the purposes of the <a title=\"Science without Borders Challenge 2024\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/science-without-borders-challenge-2024\">Forest<\/a> Act.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"New publication: Predicting the distribution of critically endangered tree species Karomia gigas under climate change in Tanzania\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/new-publication-predicting-the-distribution-of-critically-endangered-tree-species-karomia-gigas-under-climate-change-in-tanzania\">Tanzania<\/a> Forest Fund involves various stakeholders in its efforts to attain the objects and purposes for its establishment through awarding grants. The grants award is regulated by the <strong>Forest (Manner and Criteria for Awarding Grants) Regulations, 2021, <\/strong>and application for grants is through submission of proposals after announcing <a title=\"BioInnovate Africa Fellowship for Women Scientists (BA-FWS)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/bioinnovate-africa-fellowship-for-women-scientists-ba-fws\">call<\/a> of proposals. Through this call of proposals, eligible stakeholders are invited to submit proposals to request grants. Deadline for submission of proposals requesting small, <a title=\"Medium Grants for Conservation 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/medium-grants-for-conservation-2023\">medium and large grants<\/a> is <strong>31st March, 2024<\/strong>. As such, proposals requesting small, medium and large grants submitted after 31st March, 2024 will not be considered for grants award. The following are eligible beneficiaries who can submit applications to request grants awarded by TaFF:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.1 Individual persons<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Individual persons are eligible for <a title=\"International Climate Initiative Small Grants\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/international-climate-initiative-small-grants\">small grants<\/a> of the amount not exceeding <strong>Tanzania Shillings (TZS) Five Million (5,000,000\/=)<\/strong>. Individual persons applying grants for implementing <a title=\"Undergraduate Students\u2019 Research Project Presentation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/undergraduate-students-research-project-presentation\">research projects<\/a> should be affiliated with training or research institutions. Furthermore, the individual persons who wish to access grants are required to submit proposals (prepared using the format provided in Annex 1), accompanied by the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Guarantor letter from the Executive Officer of the villages\/streets\/wards where the person lives (for individual persons applying grants for implementation of projects which are not part of their Masters or <a title=\"PhD Candidate \u201cHigh-tech sensing for turbulent and radiant heat exchange in urban environments\u201d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/phd-candidate-high-tech-sensing-for-turbulent-and-radiant-heat-exchange-in-urban-environments\">PhD<\/a> studies);<\/li>\n<li>Guarantor letter from the Executive Officer of the villages\/streets\/wards where the projects will be implemented (for individual persons applying grants for implementation of projects which are not part of their Masters or PhD studies);<\/li>\n<li>Guarantor letter from the Council Director where the project will be implemented (for individual persons applying grants for implementation of projects which are not part of their Masters or PhD studies);<\/li>\n<li>Minutes of the family meeting showing how the <a title=\"African Elephant Conservation Fund invites project proposal\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/african-elephant-conservation-fund-invites-project-proposal\">proposed projects will continue to be implemented or how the disbursed funds<\/a> will be returned to the Fund if the family member who received a grant (grantee) deceases (dies) or is not in a position to continue with project implementation;<\/li>\n<li>Photocopy of the national identity card obtained from The National Identification Authority (NIDA);<\/li>\n<li>For individual persons interested in implementing <a title=\"Is tree planting truly effective in combating climate change?\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/is-tree-planting-truly-effective-in-combating-climate-change\">tree planting<\/a> projects, evidence showing ownership of 10 acres of land or more (family agreement for the land obtained through inheritance, letter and minutes of village government, certificate of land occupancy, certificate of customary land occupancy, agreement of land purchase), should be submitted together with evidence of tree planting initiatives;<\/li>\n<li>For individual persons applying grants for implementing projects which are part of Masters or PhD studies, they should submit evidence of <a title=\"Call for applications to undergraduate programmes in the academic year 2023\/2024.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-applications-to-undergraduate-programmes-in-the-academic-year-2023-2024\">admission<\/a> from respective training institution\/university;<\/li>\n<li>Letter from the office of Directorate of Postgraduate Studies or other relevant authority to authenticate that the grants applicant has no any other sources of funds for implementing the <a title=\"FSP 300 Research Project I: Research Methods and Proposal development\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/study\/fsp-300-research-project-i-research-methods-and-proposal-development\">proposed research project<\/a>. The letter should also show that the requested grants will be used for implementation of a project which is part of the <a title=\"Applications for Admission into Masters and PhD programmes for the Academic Year 2018\/2019\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/applications-for-admission-into-masters-and-phd-programmes-for-the-academic-year-2018-2019\">applicant\u2019s Masters or PhD<\/a> studies;<\/li>\n<li>Introduction letter and guarantor letter from Head of Department or College where the grants applicant has been admitted\/registered (for individual persons applying grants for implementation of projects which are part of their Masters or PhD studies);<\/li>\n<li>Photocopy of <a title=\"Invitation for Students to Apply to Project Green Course\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/invitation-for-students-to-apply-to-project-green-course\">student identity card for individual persons applying grants for implementation of projects<\/a> which are part of their Masters or PhD studies;<\/li>\n<li>Guarantor letter from the Head of the respective institutions for individual <a title=\"Research Grants 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/research-grants-2023-2\">research grant<\/a> applicants; and<\/li>\n<li>Individual persons applying grants for implementing individual <a title=\"FSP 301: Research Project II\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/study\/fsp-301-research-project-ii\">research projects<\/a> should submit a letter from the head of affiliated institutions showing that the applicant is an employee of that institution.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.2 Community-based Organizations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Community-based Organizations (CBOs) are eligible for <a title=\"Wild Animal Small Grants Program\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/wild-animal-small-grants-program\">small grants<\/a> of the amount not exceeding <strong>TZS Ten Million (10,000,000\/=) <\/strong>for implementing tree planting and beekeeping projects. CBOs wishing to access grants are required to submit proposals (prepared using the format provided in Annex 1), accompanied by the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Guarantor letter from the Executive Officer of the villages\/streets\/wards where the CBO is located;<\/li>\n<li>Guarantor letter from the Executive Officer of the villages\/streets\/wards where the projects will be implemented;<\/li>\n<li>Guarantor letter from the Council Director where the CBO is registered and where the projects will be implemented;<\/li>\n<li>Photocopy of certificate of registration of the CBO certified by the Council Director where the CBO is registered;<\/li>\n<li>Photocopy of the constitution of the respective CBO signed by all CBO members;<\/li>\n<li>Minutes of the CBO\u2019s meeting with names and telephone numbers of all CBO members and signed by all CBO The agenda of the meeting is endorsement of proposal to be submitted to TaFF to request for grants;<\/li>\n<li>Evidence showing that the CBO owns <a title=\"Land Purchase for Conservation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/land-purchase-for-conservation\">land of 20 acres or more (letter and minutes of village government, certificate of land occupancy and\/or, certificate of customary land occupancy, agreement of land purchase<\/a>) for tree planting projects geared at establishing woodlots, as well as evidence of tree planting initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Evidence showing that the CBO has been granted permit from relevant authorities to allow CBO members to <a title=\"Beekeeping Field Practical Training in Arusha: Hands-on experience in apiary management\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/beekeeping-field-practical-training-in-arusha-hands-on-experience-in-apiary-management\">practice beekeeping<\/a> inside forest reserves or other reserved areas (for proposed beekeeping projects). The permit should show the duration granted to practice beekeeping inside the <a title=\"New publication from DEC: Replacement of native trees by the neotropical invasive tree Cedrela odorata L. in the Kimboza Forest Reserve, Tanzania\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/new-publication-from-dec-replacement-of-native-trees-by-the-neotropical-invasive-tree-cedrela-odorata-l-in-the-kimboza-forest-reserve-tanzania\">forest reserves<\/a> or other reserved areas;<\/li>\n<li>For CBOs owning natural forests with evidence of using the forests for <a title=\"Beekeeping development: integration of knowledge\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/beekeeping-development-integration-of-knowledge\">beekeeping<\/a> activities, they may submit evidence of ownership of natural forests and minutes of the meeting of CBO members (signed by all participants and authorized the respective Village\/Street Executive Officer), to substantiate agreement of using the natural forests for beekeeping ; and<\/li>\n<li>Evidence of beekeeping initiatives should also be submitted for CBOs practicing beekeeping.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.3 Non-governmental Organizations; Civil Society Organizations, and Faith-based Organizations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs); Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and Faith-based Organizations (FBOs) are eligible for medium (amount more than <strong>TZS 10 million <\/strong>but not exceeding <strong>20 million<\/strong>) and large grants (amount more than <strong>TZS 20 million <\/strong>but not exceeding <strong>50 million), only for implementing tree planting and alternative <a title=\"Energy Globe Award for Sustainability \u2014 Awards 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/uncategorized\/energy-globe-award-for-sustainability-awards-2023\">energy<\/a> sources projects (and not awareness creation or sensitization projects). The NGOs, CSOs and FBOs wishing to access grants are required to submit proposals (prepared using the format provided in Annex 2), accompanied by the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Evidence showing existence of the office for NGOs, CSOs or FBOs (letter from relevant authority and photography);<\/li>\n<li>Guarantor letter from the Executive Officer of the villages\/streets\/wards where the office of the NGO or CSO or FBO is located;<\/li>\n<li>Guarantor letter from the Executive Officer of the villages\/streets\/wards where the projects will be implemented;<\/li>\n<li>Guarantor letter from the Council Director where the office of the NGO or CSO or FBOs is located;<\/li>\n<li>Guarantor letter from the Council Director where the projects will be implemented;<\/li>\n<li>Photocopy of certificate of registration of the NGOs, CSOs or FBOs certified by the Council Director where the NGOs, CSOs or FBOs are permitted to operate and\/or the Registrar of NGOs, CSOs or FBOs;<\/li>\n<li>Letter to authenticate that the NGO or CSO or FBO has been verified by relevant authority;<\/li>\n<li>Minutes of the meeting of all <a title=\"Call for Expression of Interest for Board Members of AfSTAG and AYAB\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-expression-of-interest-for-board-members-of-afstag-and-ayab\">members or Board<\/a> members to substantiate that the proposed project which has been submitted to TaFF to request for grants has been endorsed and\/or approved by all members or Board members of the relevant NGO, CSO or FBO. The minutes should have all names and phone numbers of all participants and should be signed by all who participated in the meeting;<\/li>\n<li>Evidence showing that the NGO or CSO or FBO owns land of more than 20 acres (letter and minutes of village government, certificate of land occupancy, certificate of customary land occupancy, agreement of land purchase) for tree planting projects geared at establishing woodlots. Evidence of tree planting initiatives should also be submitted;<\/li>\n<li>Evidence showing that the NGO or CSO or FBO has been granted permit from relevant authorities to practice beekeeping inside <a title=\"Mazumbai Forest Reserve: An Ideal Destination for Research and Tourism\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/mazumbai-forest-reserve-an-ideal-destination-for-research-and-tourism\">forest reserves<\/a> or other reserved areas (for proposed beekeeping projects). The permit should show the duration granted to practice beekeeping inside the forest reserves or other reserved areas;<\/li>\n<li>For NGO or CSO or FBO owning <a title=\"Postdoc \u2013 3D Modeling and Virtual Reality Creation of Natural Forest Environments\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/postdoc-3d-modeling-and-virtual-reality-creation-of-natural-forest-environments\">natural forests<\/a> with evidence of using the forests for beekeeping activities, may submit evidence of ownership of natural forests and minutes of the meeting of NGO or CSO or FBO members or Board members (signed by all participants and authorized the respective Village\/Street Executive Officer) to substantiate agreement of using the natural forests for beekeeping activities; and<\/li>\n<li>Map, bill of quantities (BoQ) and\/or quotations for proposed projects which will involve construction or rehabilitation or purchase of equipment or machineries.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.4 Training and Research Institutions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Training and research institutions are eligible for all types of <a title=\"Small Grants for Conservation in Africa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/small-grants-for-conservation-in-africa\">grants except small<\/a> grants which are specific for individual persons, primary and secondary schools and CBOs. In addition, only government <a title=\"Grants for Research and Training 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/grants-for-research-and-training-2023\">training and research institutions are eligible for special purpose grants<\/a>. The training and <a title=\"Major Research Grant Development Finance\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/major-research-grant-development-finance\">research institutions wishing to access grants<\/a> are required to submit proposals prepared using the format provided in Annex 2 or Annex 3, and the proposals should be accompanied by the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Introduction letter and guarantor letter from Head of the Institution if the grants applicant is a Centre, College, Campus, zone, district or department;<\/li>\n<li>Minutes of the <a title=\"Vacancy: Research Project Manager\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/vacancy-research-project-manager\">Management or Board or Council meeting to substantiate that the proposed project<\/a> has been endorsed and\/or approved by the Management or Board or Council meeting of the relevant institution. The minutes should be properly signed;<\/li>\n<li>Evidence of land ownership for <a title=\"What we owe our trees\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/what-we-owe-our-trees\">tree<\/a> planting projects;<\/li>\n<li>Permit for practising beekeeping inside the forest reserves or other reserved areas, in case the applicants are proposing to <a title=\"National Beekeeping Policy Implementation Strategy\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/national-beekeeping-policy-implementation-strategy\">implement beekeeping<\/a> projects in the reserves which they do not own; and<\/li>\n<li>Map, BoQ and\/or quotations for proposed projects which will involve construction or rehabilitation or purchase of equipment or machineries.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.5 Government Institutions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The government institutions eligible for applying TaFF grants include government departments, companies, agencies, authorities, training institutions, <a title=\"Conference: Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/conference-tanzania-wildlife-research-institute-tawiri\">research institutions<\/a>, primary and secondary schools, as well as Local Government Authorities. The government institutions are eligible for all types of grants including special purpose grants, but small grants category is restricted to government primary and secondary schools. Proposals should be submitted by the head of institutions and should indicate how the project will improve protection, conservation, <a title=\"Research Assistant Manager (Forester)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/research-assistant-manager-forester\">management and development of forest<\/a> resources. The campus, departments, zones, centres, districts or district councils under the government institutions will be treated as individual beneficiaries, but should channel their applications through the respective head of the Institutions\/colleges\/zones. All government institutions submitting applications for grants should ensure that the proposed project activities are part of their annual plans and budgets, and they should submit letter as evidence of incorporation of such activities during the submission of the proposals. Proposals should be prepared using the format provided in Annex 2 or Annex 3 and during submission, the proposals should be accompanied by the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Introduction letter and guarantor letter from Head of Institution\/college\/zone if the grants applicant is a campus, department, zone, centre or district;<\/li>\n<li>Government schools should submit guarantor letter from the Council Director where the schools are located and where the project will be implemented;<\/li>\n<li>Minutes of the Management or Board or Council meeting to substantiate that the proposed project has been endorsed and\/or approved by the Management or Board or Council meeting of the relevant institution. The minutes should be properly signed;<\/li>\n<li>Evidence of land ownership for tree planting projects;<\/li>\n<li>Permit for practising beekeeping inside the forest reserves or other reserved areas, in case the applicants are proposing to implement beekeeping projects in the reserves which they do not own; and<\/li>\n<li>Map, BoQ and\/or quotations for proposed projects which will involve construction or rehabilitation or purchase of equipment or machineries.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>PRIORITY AREAS FOR AWARDING GRANTS<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The priority areas for awarding grants are outlined in sections 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.1\u00a0\u00a0 <a title=\"Assistant Forest Resources Manager\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/assistant-forest-resources-manager\">Forest resources<\/a> protection, conservation and management <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2024 <a title=\"Call for project proposals: Nature Conservation in Africa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-project-proposals-nature-conservation-in-africa\">call of project proposals<\/a>, grants applicants can submit proposals on the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Establishment of tree nurseries in primary and secondary schools and tree planting in schools and surrounding <a title=\"Community rights and REDD+ in Indonesia\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/community-rights-and-redd-in-indonesia\">communities<\/a>. Eligible beneficiaries are primary and secondary schools from 34 districts of 11 regions. They include <strong>Dodoma <\/strong>(<em>Chemba, Dodoma<\/em> <em>and Chamwino Districts<\/em>); <strong>Morogoro <\/strong>(<em>Gairo, Kilosa, Mvomero, and Morogoro<\/em><em> Districts<\/em>);<strong> Lindi <\/strong>(<em>Ruangwa and Lindi<\/em><em> Districts<\/em>);<strong> Manyara <\/strong>(<em>Simanjiro, Kiteto and Hanang<\/em><em> Districts<\/em>);<strong> Singida <\/strong>(<em>Manyoni, Mkalama, Iramba and Ikungi<\/em><em> Districts<\/em>)<em>;<\/em><strong> Mwanza <\/strong>(<em>Sengerema, Misungwi and Magu<\/em><em> Districts<\/em>);<strong> Pwani <\/strong>(<em>Rufiji and Kibaha<\/em><em> Districts<\/em>)<em>;<\/em> <strong>Kilimanjaro <\/strong>(<em>Rombo, Same and Mwanga<\/em><em> Districts<\/em>)<em>;<\/em><strong> Kigoma <\/strong>(<em>Kibondo, Buhigwe and Kigoma<\/em><em> Districts<\/em>)<em>;<\/em><strong> Geita <\/strong>(<em>Geita, Bukombe and Nyang\u2019wale<\/em><em> Districts<\/em>)<em>,<\/em> na<strong> Tanga <\/strong>(<em>Mkinga, Handeni, Lushoto and Tanga<\/em><em> Districts<\/em>).<\/li>\n<li>Establishment of woodlots of which the eligible beneficiaries are individual persons, CBOs, CSOs and FBOs. The grants applicants should show evidence of owning <strong>10 acres <\/strong>of land or more for individual persons and 20 acres or more for CBOs, CSOs and FBOs. Applications can be submitted from all regions of Tanzania mainland except<strong> Dar es Salaam<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Tree planting in plantations or land owned by the government institutions. Eligible applicants are government institutions <a title=\"Call for Proposals \u2013 Forest Management Planning for Village Land Forest Reserves\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-proposals-forest-management-planning-for-village-land-forest-reserves\">managing forest plantations or have land reserved<\/a> for establishing forest plantations and the applicants are advised to apply special purpose grants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Alternative <a title=\"Bamboo plants shows great potential to become the next big renewable energy source\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/bamboo-plants-shows-great-potential-to-become-the-next-big-renewable-energy-source\">energy sources<\/a> including biogas and stoves using alternative energy sources. The aim is to reduce dependence of firewood and <a title=\"The potential and optimal strategies for charcoal sub-sector development in Tanzania\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/the-potential-and-optimal-strategies-for-charcoal-sub-sector-development-in-tanzania\">charcoal<\/a> as sources of energy and improvement of forest protection and conservation. Eligible applicants are NGOs, CSOs, FBOs and government institutions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Improvement of <a title=\"Value chain development for selected forest-based products to enhance community livelihoods\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/value-chain-development-for-selected-forest-based-products-to-enhance-community-livelihoods\">livelihood of communities<\/a> living adjacent to forest resource base<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In 2024 call of project proposals, grants applicants will compete on the sub-theme of improving <a title=\"The Role of Technology in Forest Conservation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/the-role-of-technology-in-forest-conservation\">forest conservation<\/a> through beekeeping. Eligible applicants are CBOs which should apply small grants up to <strong>TZS 10 million<\/strong> and government institutions which should apply for medium and large grants. <strong>Women and <a title=\"Youths contribute to biodiversity conservation efforts\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/youths-contribute-to-biodiversity-conservation-efforts\">youth<\/a> registered groups are encouraged to apply.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Research in forestry geared at:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3.3.1\u00a0 Improving forest development, protection, <a title=\"Measuring impact to improve conservation results\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/measuring-impact-to-improve-conservation-results\">conservation<\/a> and management <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eligible <a title=\"National Beekeeping Research Master Plan of Tanzania\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/national-beekeeping-research-master-plan-of-tanzania\">research proposals should aim at providing answers to prevailing problems and challenges in the forest and beekeeping<\/a> subsector. The research topics or fields should come or link to the <a title=\"Pennsylvania 4-H\u2019er Takes Second Place in National 4-H Beekeeping Essay Contest\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/pennsylvania-4-her-takes-second-place-in-national-4-h-beekeeping-essay-contest\">national forest or beekeeping<\/a> research master plans or priority research areas of higher learning institutions and accepted or approved by the national forestry research coordination institution.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.3.2 <\/strong>\u00a0 <strong>Improving quantity, quality and value addition for sustainable use of forest produce<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Eligible research proposals should aim at improving quantity, quality and value addition to forest and or bee <a title=\"Boosting Beehive Productivity with Modern Technology\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/boosting-beehive-productivity-with-modern-technology\">products as per national forest master plan and\/or beekeeping<\/a> research master plan.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible applicants are research institutions, training institutions and researchers from research institutions and training institutions, as well as Masters and <a title=\"Field visit by supervisors for REFOREST PhD student\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/field-visit-by-supervisors-for-reforest-phd-student\">PhD students<\/a> wishing to apply grants for the purpose of finalizing their dissertations\/Theses.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a name=\"_Toc120467797\"><\/a><a name=\"_Toc120467955\"><\/a> <strong>Enhance capacity building to training and\/or research institutions<\/strong><strong> and best student awards<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Proposals requesting grants are invited from the following areas:<\/p>\n<p>3.3.1<strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><a title=\"International Environmental Governance Capacity Building\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/international-environmental-governance-capacity-building\">Capacity building to government<\/a> institutions responsible for coordinating forestry research and government training institutions under the Forest and Beekeeping Division responsible for conducting training in forestry, forest industries and beekeeping. Eligible activities include construction and rehabilitation of buildings, and purchase of equipment, machineries and facilities.<\/p>\n<p>3.3.2<strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>The second area of focus is best student award including sponsorship award. Eligible beneficiaries are best <a title=\"The Constitution of the Tanzania Forestry Students\u2019 Association (TFSA) of 2012\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/the-constitution-of-the-tanzania-forestry-students-association-tfsa-of-2012\">students who have completed Certificate and Diploma courses in Forestry<\/a>, Forest Industries and Beekeeping, as well best first year, second year and third year students in Forestry Degree from Sokoine University of Agriculture. Procedures for best student award and sponsorship award will be <a title=\"Post-COP28 questions linger for climate-impacted communities\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/post-cop28-questions-linger-for-climate-impacted-communities\">communicated<\/a> to relevant institutions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>TYPES OF GRANTS<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>TaFF awards four types of grants, namely; small grants, <a title=\"Medium Grants for Conservation 2021\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/medium-grants-for-conservation-2021\">medium grants<\/a>, large grants, and special purpose grants. These grant categories are differentiated by amount of money offered, eligible beneficiaries, duration of project implementation and contribution to forest development, protection, <a title=\"Small Grants for Great Ape Conservation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/small-grants-for-great-ape-conservation\">conservation<\/a> and management. The grants types are elucidated hereunder as follows:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Small Grants (Amounts not exceeding TZS 10 Million) <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Small grants are awarded to individual persons, CBOs and primary and secondary schools for supporting small-scale interventions that contribute to improving forest protection, conservation, <a title=\"LIVELIHOODS AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MANAGER\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/livelihoods-and-community-development-manager\">management and development<\/a>. Individual persons and primary and secondary schools are eligible for applying Small grants not exceeding <strong>TZS 5 million,<\/strong> while CBOs are eligible for applying Small grants up to <strong>TZS 10 million<\/strong>. Duration for implementing projects awarded small grants is <strong>six (6) to 12 months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Medium Grants for Conservation 2022\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/medium-grants-for-conservation-2022\"><strong>Medium Grants<\/strong><\/a> (Amounts above TZS 10 million but not exceeding TZS 20 million)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a title=\"BIOPAMA: Medium Grants Eastern and Southern Africa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/biopama-medium-grants-eastern-and-southern-africa\">Medium grants<\/a> are awarded to support interventions with bigger contribution on forest protection, conservation, management and development compared to interventions supported using small grants. All beneficiaries are eligible for this grant\u2019s category except individual persons, primary and secondary schools and CBOs. The duration for implementing projects awarded large grants is <strong>18 to 24 months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Large Grants (Amounts above TZS 20 million but not exceeding TZS 50 million)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Large grants are awarded to support interventions with bigger contribution to forest protection, <a title=\"Strengthening Protection of Parks Is Crucial for Biodiversity Conservation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/strengthening-protection-of-parks-is-crucial-for-biodiversity-conservation\">conservation<\/a>, management and development compared to projects awarded medium grants. All beneficiaries are eligible for this grant\u2019s category except individual persons, primary and secondary schools and CBOs. The duration for implementing projects awarded large grants is <strong>18 to 24 months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Special Purpose Grants (Amount exceeding TZS 50 million)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Special purpose grants are <a title=\"Swiss Confederation awards Government Excellence Scholarships 2020\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/swiss-confederation-awards-government-excellence-scholarships-2020\">awarded to <strong>government<\/strong><\/a> institutions only for the purpose of implementing projects with a significant impact on protection, conservation, management and development of forest resources, which cannot be realized using other types of grants. Projects to be considered for being awarded special purpose grants include establishment of <a title=\"Forest Plantation and Woodlot Technical Guidelines\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/forest-plantation-and-woodlot-technical-guidelines\">forest plantations<\/a>, large-scale afforestation schemes and infrastructure development with enormous impact on forest protection, conservation, management and development. Type of <a title=\"Undergraduate Special Project\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/students\/special-project-supervision\">project and the amount to be awarded as special<\/a> purpose grants is the discretion of the Board of Trustees. Duration for implementing <a title=\"special project\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/uncategorized\/special-project\">projects awarded special<\/a> purpose grants will depend on the nature of activities, but should be at least three years (<strong>36 months<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><a name=\"_Toc120467969\"><\/a> <strong>TYPES OF ASSISTANCE <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Three types of assistance will be used in awarding grants as elucidated hereunder:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Monetary assistance<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Tanzania <a title=\"Job Vacancy: Tutorial Assistant (Forest Soil) \u2013 1 Post\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/job-vacancy-tutorial-assistant-forest-soil-1-post\">Forest Fund could provide financial assistance<\/a> to support implementation of interventions or activities of proposed projects;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Material assistance <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tanzania Forest Fund could provide required materials, tools, technology, machineries, facilities and equipment required to implement interventions or activities of <a title=\"Call for Project Proposal: Access to Renewable Energy\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-project-proposal-access-to-renewable-energy\">proposed projects; and<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Technical assistance <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tanzania Forest Fund could provide technical assistance by conducting training or hiring professionals to conduct training or provide other technical <a title=\"Local Project Support\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/local-project-support\">support stipulated in the proposed projects<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><strong>KEY CRITERIA TO BE CONSIDERED FOR GRANTS AWARD<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The following are criteria to be considered during grants award:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Direct or indirect contribution of the project to forest protection, conservation, <a title=\"Postdoc \u2013 Forest management planning\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/postdoc-forest-management-planning\">management and development of forest<\/a> resources;<\/li>\n<li>Direct or indirect tangible benefits provided by the projects to target beneficiaries;<\/li>\n<li>Project operations are transparent and demonstrate accountability;<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Calling for innovative ocean-minded startups\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/calling-for-innovative-ocean-minded-startups\">Innovativeness<\/a> of the project and evidence on the attainment of the objectives by the proposed activities as shown in the logical framework;<\/li>\n<li>Project showing that TaFF\u2019s grants should be complementary of other similar projects and should not substitute existing and ongoing initiatives;<\/li>\n<li>Applicability of project results\/outputs for improving protection, <a title=\"Let\u2019s honor those who have protected Indiana\u2019s natural places through conservation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/lets-honor-those-who-have-protected-indianas-natural-places-through-conservation\">conservation<\/a> and management of forest and bee resources;<\/li>\n<li>Capability of the applicant to implement and manage the project including commitment on availability of personnel and their expertise to ascertain implementation of the project;<\/li>\n<li>Evidence of <a title=\"Technical Manager Climate Projects, Sustainable Technologies (ST) \u2013 Africa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/technical-manager-climate-projects-sustainable-technologies-st-africa\">sustainability plan of the proposed project<\/a> interventions;<\/li>\n<li>Evidence of stakeholders&#8217; participation;<\/li>\n<li>Applicant\u2019s commitment to contribute 20% (cash or in-kind) of the requested funds for applicants of medium, large and special purpose grants;<\/li>\n<li>Grants applicants for non-research projects should show that the grants will be used to implement activities for the project which has already been started; and<\/li>\n<li>The proposal should indicate that the project will be implemented in mainland Tanzania.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><em>It is important to note that grants applications which show elements of copy and paste will not be considered for grants award<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li><strong>PREPARATION OF PROPOSALS REQUESTING GRANTS <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Proposals requesting small grants should be prepared using the format shown in <strong>Annex 1<\/strong>, while proposals requesting medium and large grants should be prepared using the format shown in <strong>Annex 2<\/strong>, and proposals requesting special purpose grants should be prepared using the format shown in <strong>Annex 3.<\/strong> Proposals that will not be prepared according to the given formats will be rejected. The proposals should not exceed 15 pages, excluding annexes.
