The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya and reports to the Director of the Innovation Policy and Scaling Unit.<\/p>\n<p>The Associate Research Fellow\/Research Fellow will conduct research aligned with the Innovation Policy and Scaling Unit\u2019s research goals, agenda, and portfolio. The unit\u2019s goal is to advance the generation, exchange, and application of science and technology for agriculture, food, and nutrition to improve both policy and practice that shape decision-making by governments, private enterprises, and civil society in <a title=\"Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/seeding-the-future-global-food-system-challenge\">global and local food systems<\/a>. IPS\u2019 research agenda and portfolio focus on data-driven, evidence-based solutions to accelerate <a title=\"Calling for innovative ocean-minded startups\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/calling-for-innovative-ocean-minded-startups\">innovation<\/a> at scale and advance inclusive and sustainable systems transformation.<\/p>\n<p>In pursuing this goal, the unit aims to produce and <a title=\"Community rights and REDD+ in Indonesia\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/community-rights-and-redd-in-indonesia\">communicate<\/a> policy-relevant research that improves agricultural productivity, climate resilience, incomes, welfare, nutrition, social inclusion, and gender equity. The unit does so by combining applied research with strategic <a title=\"Call for consultancy services on developing a partnership policy for the African Forest Forum (AFF)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-consultancy-services-on-developing-a-partnership-policy-for-the-african-forest-forum-aff\">partnerships and capacity development to inform and support key policy<\/a>, regulatory, and investment choices in partner countries and organizations. Topics covered by the unit range from global policy regimes governing genetic innovation in agriculture, to private <a title=\"Request for Proposal on Analysis of Public Sector Climate, Forest, and Land Use Strategies and Determination of Investment Readiness Score\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/request-for-proposal-on-analysis-of-public-sector-climate-forest-and-land-use-strategies-and-determination-of-investment-readiness-score\">sector investment strategies<\/a> in the crop sciences, to the behavioral dimensions of technology adoption choices in farmers\u2019 fields.<\/p>\n<p>The Associate Research Fellow\/Research Fellow will participate in scholarly research on topics such as the evaluation of programs to accelerate technical change among small-scale, resource- poor farmers in low- and middle-income countries with the adoption of improved crop varieties, production inputs, and <a title=\"FBL 303: Forest Soils Management\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/study\/fbl-303-forest-soils-management\">management practices for soil<\/a>, water, and biodiversity conservation; innovation bundles that combine technologies, inputs, and practices with digital and financial services; novel encouragements designed to influence household decision-making and individual behaviors; and gender-transformative interventions that engage men and women together as agents of change in food systems.<\/p>\n<p>The Associate <a title=\"Indo-Argentina Joint Research Program\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/indo-argentina-joint-research-program\">Research Fellow\/Research Fellow will specifically contribute to key aspects of the design and implementation of impact evaluations with experimental and quasi-experimental research designs, lab-in-field experiments, cost-effectiveness studies, and other types of research to help inform innovation and scaling programs<\/a> and policies. The Associate Research Fellow\/Research Fellow will engage in both the collection and analysis of primary <a title=\"Spatial Data Scientist\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/spatial-data-scientist\">data<\/a> (both quantitative and qualitative) as well as the analysis of secondary data, to contribute to the unit\u2019s portfolio.<\/p>\n<p><em>Please note that ARF appointments at IFPRI have a maximum term of three (3) years, inclusive of any approved appointment extensions. After the maximum appointment term, ARFs may be considered for a promotion to the next level.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The final grade level (ARF or RF) for this position will be determined by demonstrated experience and track record of publications.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Essential Duties<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Conduct <a title=\"Call for Concept Notes for Regional Innovation Collaboration Projects in eastern Africa\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-concept-notes-for-regional-innovation-collaboration-projects-in-eastern-africa\">collaborative research to advance food systems innovation<\/a>, accelerated climate adaptation, and enhanced incomes, nutrition and gender equity in low- and middle-income countries and with particular relevance to smallholder production systems and rural communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Conduct impact evaluations of agriculture and rural development programs and projects, including programs and projects using experimental and quasi-experimental approaches, with particular emphasis on technology adoption, <a title=\"Forest Farm Producers in Nepal discussed to up-scale the best climate change adaptation practices\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/forest-farm-producers-in-nepal-discussed-to-up-scale-the-best-climate-change-adaptation-practices\">climate change adaptation<\/a>, digital innovation, gender-transformative interventions, and related topics.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Design and execute other <a title=\"Consultancy services on assessment of forest planning and management in different forest types in selected African countries\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/consultancy-services-on-assessment-of-forest-planning-and-management-in-different-forest-types-in-selected-african-countries\">types of policy-relevant research using primary and secondary data from low- and middle-income countries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Publish <a title=\"Vacant: Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic, Research And Consultancy)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/vacant-deputy-vice-chancellor-academic-research-and-consultancy\">research<\/a> in highly ranked peer-reviewed journals and IFPRI outlets (books, policy briefs etc.).<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Participate in the preparation of <a title=\"Funguo Innovation Programme 2nd Funding Round\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/funguo-innovation-programme-2nd-funding-round\">funding<\/a> proposals for research projects and in the cultivation of relationships with potential funders.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Participate in the <a title=\"Vacancy: Research Project Manager\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/vacancy-research-project-manager\">management of research projects<\/a>, including developing workplans, coordinating research activities, engaging in capacity development activities, monitoring and reporting on progress, and sharing research findings.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Communicate <a title=\"Call for interviews: Tutorial Assistant, Assistant Lecturer, Assistant Research Fellow &amp;
