\n<\/strong>The Institute of Forestry of the Johann Heinrich von Th\u00fcnen Institute, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forests and Fisheries, in Hamburg-Bergedorf is looking for the following full-time position, limited until 31.01.2027, at the earliest possible date<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Scientist (f\/m\/d) (Economics, applied economic disciplines, Forest Sciences or related fields) <\/strong>for the project “Regional Study Harz \u2013 Scenarios for Reforestation and its Socioeconomic Effects (REHA)” \u2013 sub-project 9 “Overall Societal Assessment of Ecosystem Services” in the working area Forest and Society.<\/p>\n

The overall objective of the above-mentioned project is to develop a basis for decision-making for the development of the Harz Mountains in order to lead the region out of the crisis caused by the large-scale forest damage and into a sustainable future. The main aim of sub-project 9 is to determine the influence of forests on the quality and quantity of water<\/a> supply by means of an econometric analysis of the relationship between water provision costs and land use as well as other explanatory variables. In addition, the influences of the planned reforestation on recreational, nature conservation and climate protection<\/a> services are to be estimated using an existing regional benefit transfer model.<\/p>\n

\u200d<\/p>\n

Tasks:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00b7 Econometric analysis of the relationship between the costs of water<\/a> provision and different forms of land use (e.g. deciduous\/coniferous forest<\/a>, conventional\/ecological agriculture; sealed area, etc.) in the Harz Mountains (regression analysis)<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Extension of the analysis to all of Germany<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Adaptation<\/a> of the Institute’s existing multiple benefit transfer model “ReWaLe” to the situation in the Harz Mountains and economic evaluation of the impacts of reforestation on recreational, nature conservation and climate protection services<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Presentation of results at work meetings and conferences<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Preparation of project reports and scientific publications<\/a><\/p>\n

\u200d<\/p>\n

Professional profile:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00b7 Completed university degree (Univ. diploma\/M.Sc.) in general economics, applied economic disciplines, forest sciences<\/a> or related fields; preferably with a relevant doctorate (not mandatory).<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Knowledge of and experience with quantitative-statistical assessment methods, including statistical modeling<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Sound knowledge and experience in geodata management<\/a> and geostatistics, preferably using Access and ArcGIS<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Knowledge of forest<\/a> economics is an advantage, but not mandatory<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Background knowledge on the scientific basis of the concept of ecosystem services<\/a><\/p>\n
