The program may provide financial support of up to US$275 thousand (in certain circumstances up to US$500 thousand) to strengthen the capacities of national institutions and help the government develop and monitor the implementation of national policies, strategies, programs, and legislation. The deadline for the submission of applications is 23 August 2024.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/explore-topics\/chemicals-waste\/what-we-do\/special-programme\/applying-funding-through-special\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Please visit the Special Program<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Special Programme issues periodic <a title=\"Call for applications\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-applications\">calls for applications<\/a> for funding of projects aimed at institutional strengthening for the sound management of chemicals and waste.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The eighth round of applications is now OPEN.<br \/>\n<\/strong>The eighth round of funding under the Special Programme launched on 24 April 2024 with a\u00a0<strong>closing date of 23 August 2024<\/strong>.\u00a0<a title=\"Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) invites proposals for project funding\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/global-biodiversity-information-facility-gbif-invites-proposals-for-project-funding\">Funding is offered for projects<\/a> of up to USD 275,000 (exceptionally, and subject to additional appraisal criteria, up to USD 500,000) with a co-financing requirement of at least 25% of the amount requested, which can be provided in kind.<\/p>\n<p>Project <a title=\"Call for Proposals for Effective Inter-Regional Incubator for Youth\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-proposals-for-effective-inter-regional-incubator-for-youth\">proposals<\/a> should adopt a cross-cutting approach that seeks to enhance implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, the Minamata Convention and the Global Framework on Chemicals.<\/p>\n<p>Please scroll down to view the eligibility criteria, <a title=\"Call for applications for field surveyors for household survey &amp; key informant interview\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-applications-for-field-surveyors-for-household-survey-key-informant-interview\">application forms and further information<\/a> on how to apply for funding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fourth round of <a title=\"UB Nordic Forest Fund IV LP launched by United Bankers\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/ub-nordic-forest-fund-iv-lp-launched-by-united-bankers\">funding launched<\/a> under the Specific International Programme of the Minamata Convention<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In parallel with the eighth round of funding under the Special Programme, the Specific International Programme (SIP) under the Minamata Convention has launched its fourth round of funding.<\/p>\n<p>The SIP supports parties to the Minamata Convention in the implementation of the Convention, offering <a title=\"Funding for Conservation Projects\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/funding-for-conservation-projects\">funding for projects<\/a> ranging from USD 50,000 to USD 250,000.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"Call for applications: International Climate Protection Fellowships\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-applications-international-climate-protection-fellowships\">Applications to the Specific International<\/a> Programme are due by July 31, 2024<\/strong>, with no applicant contribution required. This funding stream is intended to help countries meet their obligations under the Minamata Convention, focusing on addressing mercury pollution and <a title=\"Protected and Conserved Area Fund\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/protected-and-conserved-area-fund\">protecting<\/a> human health and the environment from the harmful effects of mercury.<\/p>\n<p>The graphic below provides some guidance on which funding mechanism is better suited to your needs as an applicant. The Board decided that &#8220;Countries should refer to paragraph 6 of the Terms of Reference for eligibility which states that \u2018Support from the Special <a title=\"United Nations Development Programme \u2014 Pathfinder Award for Innovation in Nature Conservation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/united-nations-development-programme-pathfinder-award-for-innovation-in-nature-conservation\">Programme will be available for developing<\/a> countries, taking into account the special needs of least developed countries and small island developing States, and for countries with economies in transition (1), with priority given to those with least capacity\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Note that a number of donors have strict <a title=\"Stanford Law School Policy Lab and Bezos Earth Fund report recommends climate-smart forestry practices\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/stanford-law-school-policy-lab-and-bezos-earth-fund-report-recommends-climate-smart-forestry-practices\">policies of funding<\/a> only applications that meet the eligibility requirements of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) list of Official Development Assistance (ODA) (2) at the time of application.<\/p>\n<h3>Application an application are invited to prepare their <a title=\"Call for Projects 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-projects-2023\">project<\/a> application in consultation with ministries and stakeholders to identify national priorities, gaps and challenges to facilitate and enable the implementation of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions, the Minamata Convention and the Global Framework on Chemicals.<\/p>\n<p>Consultation with additional sources, such as the Secretariats of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brsmeas.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/minamataconvention.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minamata Convention<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chemicalsframework.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Framework on Chemicals<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegef.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GEF<\/a>, including consultation with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegef.org\/who-we-are\/focal-points\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GEF focal point<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/resources\/report\/lira-guidance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LIRA guidance<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/resources\/report\/guidance-chemicals-control-contributing-national-progress-and-safety\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guidance on Chemicals Control<\/a>\u00a0and guidance on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.undp.org\/publications\/chemicals-management-why-and-how-mainstreaming-gender\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gender mainstreaming<\/a>\u00a0is also
