Eligibility for grants extends to agencies legally responsible for site management; registered local, national, and international NGOs; and the private sector. Grants of US$5 thousand to US$40 thousand are awarded for periods of up to six months. Please carefully read all the information available below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RRF criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. The site must be located in an eligible country:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>RRF grants are restricted to <a title=\"United Nations Environment Programme: Waste Management in Developing Countries\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/united-nations-environment-programme-waste-management-in-developing-countries\">countries that are eligible for \u2018official development<\/a> assistance\u2019 according to the OECD. A list of countries that are eligible for RRF funding can be found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd.org\/dac\/financing-sustainable-development\/development-finance-standards\/DAC-List-of-ODA-Recipients-for-reporting-2022-23-flows.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Overseas territories of <a title=\"Funding: Waste Management in Developing Countries\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/funding-waste-management-in-developing-countries\">developed countries<\/a> may occasionally be considered, please contact the Secretariat for advice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. The site must be a listed UNESCO natural World Heritage site (or an internationally recognised site of high <a title=\"Biodiversity on a Changing Planet\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/biodiversity-on-a-changing-planet\">biodiversity<\/a> value):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>RRF grants are available for UNESCO natural World Heritage sites. The list of UNESCO World Heritage sites can be found\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>; please note UNESCO cultural World Heritage sites are not eligible for RRF funding.<\/p>\n<p>In rare cases, we may also consider other high-priority <a title=\"Rainforest Trust: Creating New Protected Areas\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/rainforest-trust-creating-new-protected-areas\">protected areas<\/a> including;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1) Sites on the tentative <a title=\"UNESCO World Heritage Center \u2014 Requests for International Assistance\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/unesco-world-heritage-center-requests-for-international-assistance\">World Heritage<\/a> list<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We occasionally accept applications from sites on \u2018tentative\u2019 lists, which can be found\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/tentativelists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>. We only consider <a title=\"New publication: The abundance and diversity of rodents in forest sites invaded and uninvaded by Maesopsis eminii trees in Amani Nature Reserve, Tanzania\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/new-publication-the-abundance-and-diversity-of-rodents-in-forest-sites-invaded-and-uninvaded-by-maesopsis-eminii-trees-in-amani-nature-reserve-tanzania\">sites included under natural<\/a> or mixed categories.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Other eligible sites<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In exceptional circumstances the Rapid Response Facility may provide grants for places other than World Heritage sites. These would need to be one of the following:<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\n&#8211; a site that directly impacts the \u2018outstanding universal values\u2019 (OUV) of a natural World Heritage site.\u00a0<\/strong>This includes sites that are in close proximity to a natural World Heritage site, where the threat would impact the biodiversity within the World Heritage site.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;\u00a0sites with other international designations.<\/strong><br \/>\nSuch as;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>UNESCO Man &amp; <a title=\"Award for Biosphere Reserve Management\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/award-for-biosphere-reserve-management\">Biosphere Reserves<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Ramsar sites<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applications for actions outside the World Heritage site network must clearly demonstrate the <a title=\"Global Climate Fund\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/global-climate-fund\">global<\/a> significance of the site\u2019s biodiversity in order to qualify for funding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Applications must address a sudden emergency situation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The RRF only <a title=\"Conservation Action Fund\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/conservation-action-fund\">funds actions<\/a> at a site facing an \u2018emergency\u2019 threat to its biodiversity. We do not <a title=\"Conservation Action Fund\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/conservation-action-fund-2\">fund on-going issues even if they require urgent action<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The RRF\u2019s definition of emergency is based on the following criteria, all of which will be considered during the decision process:<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0<em>Suddenness:<\/em>\u00a0How recently has the threat emerged or worsened? RRF only consider a situation an emergency if it has arisen in the last few months or weeks, or if the intensity of an existing threat has got suddenly worse. RRF advise applicants to <a title=\"Recent scientific briefs provide information about the Global Biodiversity Framework goals.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/recent-scientific-briefs-provide-information-about-the-global-biodiversity-framework-goals\">provide evidence of any recent<\/a> increases in the threat profile where possible.<br \/>\n2)\u00a0<em>Predictability:<\/em>\u00a0Based on past experience, how predictable was the situation? The RRF prioritises funding for situations where the threat was unpredictable and thus difficult to prepare for in advance.<br \/>\n3)\u00a0<em>Time sensitivity:<\/em>\u00a0Will there be a measurable <a title=\"Oklahoma City Zoo &amp; Botanical Garden: Conservation Grants 2023\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/oklahoma-city-zoo-botanical-garden-conservation-grants-2023\">conservation<\/a> benefit if work starts immediately (within days \/ 1-2 weeks), rather than in months or years? The RRF prioritises projects that require immediate assistance.<br \/>\n4)\u00a0<em>Duration and reversibility of impact:<\/em>\u00a0Does the threat have the potential to cause long-lasting negative impact to the biodiversity value of the site? The RRF prioritises actions that avert irreversible damage or reduce long-term negative impacts.<\/p>\n<p>Applications must meet most or all of these criteria in order to qualify for funding. Those that do not meet the criteria are likely to be rejected by the Secretariat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Applications must be from an eligible organisation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The RRF can make grants to any organisation that has permission to work at the <a title=\"Call for Proposals for Effective Inter-Regional Incubator for Youth\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/ecosystems\/news\/call-for-proposals-for-effective-inter-regional-incubator-for-youth\">proposed<\/a> site. The RRF does not make grants to individuals.
