They are on the \u201cfrontlines\u201d of droughts, flooding, desertification and sea level rise.<\/p>\n<p>International climate finance is supposed to help. In the 2015 Paris Agreement, the world\u2019s wealthiest countries pledged\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/process-and-meetings\/the-paris-agreement\/the-glasgow-climate-pact\/cop26-outcomes-finance-for-climate-adaptation#Developed-countries-have-pledged-USD-100-billion-a\">US$50 billion annually<\/a>\u00a0to support climate adaptation among those \u201cparticularly vulnerable\u201d to climate change. Climate adaptation is the adjustments humans make to reduce exposure to climate risk.<\/p>\n<p>Eight years later, it is clear that this money is failing to reach vulnerable \u201cfrontline communities\u201d, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. Recently, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, South Sudan and Niger have been among the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.germanwatch.org\/sites\/germanwatch.org\/files\/2021-01\/cri-2021_table_10_most_affected_countries_in_2019.jpg\">top ten most affected countries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The host country of the upcoming annual United Nations climate negotiations (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfwt.sua.ac.tz\/foresteconomics\/wp-admin\/post.php?post=4064&amp;action=edit\">COP28<\/a>), the United Arab Emirates, has announced it is focused on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cop28.com\/en\/news\/2023\/10\/cop28-presidency-co-hosts-global-dialogue-in-abu-dhabi-to-focus-on-accelerating-the-energy\">fixing climate finance<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Communities around the world face\u00a0increasingly severe\u00a0and\u00a0frequent impacts\u00a0from climate change.
