Congratulations Professor G.C.Monela

The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism has handed a memorial shield to the former Vice Chancellor of Sokoine University of Agriculture, Professor Gerald Monela for his excellence in leadership. His leadership voyage at the University reached a climax last year when he retired from administrative duties.

For eleven years, Professor Monela served as a leader at different levels in the University. He is a senior member of the Department of Forest and Environmental Economics which is under the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism. His leadership career at the university started in 1996 when he was appointed as the head of the Department of Forest and Environmental Economics (which was known as Forest Economics by then). From there, he went on to become the Dean of Faculty of Forestry and Nature Conservation (Colleges were known as Faculties by then), Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration and Finance) and finally the Vice Chancellor. The Principal, Professor John Kessy led the staffs of the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Tourism to express their gratitude to Professor Monela at a small event that took place nearby the College. Apart from being appreciative, Professor Monela invited more cooperation from the staffs as he is accessible and ready to help where he can. The department of Forest and Environmental Economics is proud of him and thanks him a lot for the marvellous work that he did in different administrative positions before his retirement as a Vice Chancellor in 2017.
