The government has announced that students who complete Form Six and excel in Science subjects will receive a full scholarship of 100% coverage, funded by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
During the opening of the Education, Skills, and Innovation Week celebrations, the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Professor Adolf Mkenda emphasized the government’s commitment to this initiative. This announcement was made on May 26, 2024, during the launch of the Education, Skills, and Innovation Week in Tanga.
To ensure the implementation of this program, Professor Mkenda stated that they have established the Samia Scholarship, which will provide free education without loans to top-performing students, numbering between 600 to 700, who will have the option to study either domestically or abroad.
Priority areas for this scholarship include Science, Engineering, Medical Education, and Information and Communication Technology, where students will receive full tuition coverage, living allowances, books, and essential services.
Regarding fostering innovation, Professor Mkenda addressed concerns that the government does not support innovators, clarifying that the Ministry encourages innovation and provides funding for beneficial ideas.
In a bid to advance the nation, Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office (Labor, Youth, Employment, and Persons with Disabilities) Mr. Patrobas Katambi stressed the importance of having skilled and innovative individuals within Tanzania to drive progress, cautioning against relying solely on foreign innovators.
The government has allocated over 3 billion Tanzanian Shillings for revitalizing existing educational institutions and an additional 3.4 billion Tanzanian Shillings for constructing new ones, emphasizing this as a crucial step in overcoming the challenges facing the nation.

During the Education, Skills, and Innovation Week celebrations, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, Professor Carolyne Nombo, reported that the 2024 event involved more than 140 institutions, 20 award-winning innovators, 27 technical colleges, vocational training centers, and secondary school students.
