The Centre for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies (CDRS) is uniquely positioned as an interdisciplinary environment in which researchers from across various disciplines offer comprehensive inter-professional and intersectoral disability and rehabilitation-related knowledge translation, management, education and engagement in training programmes, research, and research development for all relevant professionals.

The Centre strongly advocates for an understanding of disability and rehabilitation as a transformation and social justice issue. The Centre) is advertising for a Senior Lecturer / Lecturer with special focus on Assistive Technology (AT) to join the staff of the CDRS in driving teaching and learning, research, and social impact at postgraduate level.

Duties:

  • Strengthening the academic programmes offered by the CDRS with a specific focus on developing a postgraduate diploma (PGDip) in Assistive Technology;
  • Undertaking teaching, learning and assessment within academic programmes of the CDRS and renewed MBChB curriculum using innovative methods;
  • Coordinating relevant evaluation and research activities to inform the continuous improvement of the teaching and learning initiatives;
  • Leading and coordinating disability and rehabilitation research within the CDRS¿s strategic research focus areas;
  • Actively publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals;
  • Providing research supervision and mentorship to staff and postgraduate students;
  • Organising CPD activities, short courses and seminars in relevant topics;
  • Fostering collaboration and engagements with units in the Faculty, University, and other educational and research institutions;
  • Securing funding to support research, training, or service.
Desired skills and experience

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in health sciences or a disability and rehabilitation related field;
  • Expertise and experience in mentoring and facilitating learning and assessment in postgraduate disability and rehabilitation studies;
  • Expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research methods;
  • Evidence of postgraduate research supervision;
  • Experience in teaching and coordination of postgraduate programmes;
  • Evidence of established regional and international collaborations within the area of Assistive Technology;
  • A publication record in disability and rehabilitation studies;
  • Project management, coordination, and networking skills;
  • The ability to work independently and in a team.

Recommendations:

  • PhD in health sciences or a disability and rehabilitation related field;
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining funding for research;
  • Proven record of scholarly and scientific achievement and the ability to maintain it;
  • Track record of research on teaching and learning in disability and rehabilitation studies;
  • Experience in developing a curriculum;
  • An interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
