1.0. POSITION: – Apopo HeroTREEs Officer – I POST, MOROGORO

POSITION SUMMARY
The SUA- APOPO Project is looking for a dedicated HeroTREEs Officer to lead Apopo greening efforts. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the conservation of the Uluguru Mountains and be a part of innovative carbon offset activities, the successfully applicant need to be passionate about conservation, agroforestry, and re-afforestation effort, with the skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on the environment.

 

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, or a related field from Sokoine University of Agriculture
  • Good understanding of agroforestry, conservation, and re-afforestation practices
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including researchers, students, partners, and farmer groups
  • Strong commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to write concept notes and project proposals
  • Adaptability and problem-solving skills
  • Prior experience in conservation projects is a plus
  • Knowledge of GIS systems is a plus
  • Must be flexible i.e. willing to work in Weekends.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a HeroTREEs Officer, you will play a vital role in the implementation of a conservation project in the Uluguru Mountains, focusing on re-afforestation and agroforestry. Your duties will include:

  • Implementation of Conservation Projects: Execute conservation projects with a focus on re-afforestation, agroforestry, and carbon offset activities as part of APOPO’s initiatives.
  • Syntropic Farming: Promote and implement syntropic farming practices to enhance food security, biodiversity and carbon sequestration in APOPO areas of work.
  • Tree Planting: Lead tree planting initiatives to restore and maintain the ecological balance of the Uluguru Mountains.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with researchers, students, partners, and farmer groups to ensure successful project implementation and community involvement.
  • Perform any other project related duties as assigned by a superior.

TERMS OF CONTRACT: Contract will be for 1 year (including a 6-month probationary period) and is renewable depending on the performance and funding

AGE: Not above 45 years old  

SALARY: As per Treasury Registry Salary Circular No. 6 of 2022 which is applicable at the moment
