Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Explain different concepts and key terminologies used in integrated watershed management
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of integrated watershed management for conservation of water resources, forest resources and biodiversity.
  3. Measure and analyze hydrological parameters.
  4. Develop watershed management plan(s).

Contents: Definitions and terms used in watershed management and hydrology.Watershed problems: their identification and analysis. Principles of forest hydrology: the hydrologic cycle and run off processes. The hydrology of forest ecosystems – catchment management and catchment forestry. Estimating run-off. Role of vegetation in water conservation. Watershed management techniques, river course and riparian management. Water quality management. Soil erosion and its control. Best land management practices and land capability classification. Integrated watershed planning. Human induced impacts on the hydrology of a watershed. Participatory and integrated watershed management planning and practices.
